Hi Vicky,

Yes, I had the same problem when I was on Wellbutrin, even though many doctors and drug company literature will tell you that it is unlikely or less likely to happen with Wellbutrin than with the other, older antidepressants. The old tricyclic antidepressants (elavil, imipramine, desipramine, etc.) were notorious for causing urinary retention due to their anticholinergic activity. Wellbutrin was "not supposed to" have this effect, but I definitely had urinary retention on it. There is a drug called bethanechol (urecholine?) that can be taken to help you urinate. I took it for a while and it did help.
