Drug rash should be taken seriously...it is indicative of an allergic reaction that can be potentially dangerous.

Rash was the most common cause for discontinuation of lamotrigine therapy.[537] Approximately 10% of patients develop erythema and a maculopapular rash. The rash usually develops during the first 2—8 weeks of therapy and may resolve despite continuation of therapy. Isolated cases occurring after prolonged treatment have been reported. Serious rashes, some of which can be life-threatening, are observed more often in children than adults. Post-marketing surveillance and controlled clinical studies have revealed as many as 1 in 100 pediatric patients develop a potentially life-threatening rash compared with 3 in 1000 adults. (NOTE: Lamotrigine is not indicated for children < 16 years of age except for those who have seizures associated with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome.) Rash also appears to be more common in patients receiving valproic acid concomitantly or when the recommended dose escalation procedures are exceeded. Rash has occurred, however, when these factors were not present. More serious dermatologic reactions have been reported in approximately 1% of patients and include Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, angioedema, and pruritus. In rare cases, rash-related deaths have been reported. Initiating therapy at the lowest dosage possible and escalating slowly appears to minimize the occurrence of skin rash
