I have preexisting tinnitus. Effexor-XR makes it worse. However, I feel SO much better that I tolerate the ringing in my ears. I'm taking Effexor-XR 150 mg/day for chronic intractable pain and associated depression. MUCH better since starting this medication. I'm not worried about stopping it. My doctor says she has never had anyone who could not stop taking it, when properly tapered off.
