The FDA allows a 20% margin of error for generics. 5mg of a Brand name might be 4 or 6 mg in generic form. With a drug like xanax even a small change can make a world of difference. That is why you must be very careful when switching especially thyroid and antiseizure drugs. Check out www.Prozac.com and see their argument about using generics. The rule of thumb is to stay with what you started on in most cases or be ready to make adjustments.
