Bipolar Expert Consensus Treatment Guidelines

Posted by SLS on September 7, 2001, at 8:26:50

I posted a copy of the following document on my website:

"THE EXPERT CONSENSUS GUIDELINE SERIES:
MEDICATION TREATMENT OF BIPOLAR DISORDER 2000"

The document is an Adobe PDF file approximately 1 Mb in size. You will need the Adobe Acrobat Reader to view it online. It will take awhile to load, but you can save the file on your computer for future use by clicking on the icon appearing towards the left on the special Reader toolbar. It is represented by a picture of a floppy disk. You can also download the file directly to your computer without having the Reader installed by right-clicking on the link and using your browser's "Save Target As" option.

The list of participants is impressive. To evaluate whether you would want to invest the time to review the document, I listed the members of the panel at the end of this post. I only wish that I were well enough to read through the whole thing. We'll see. Please let me know if there are any problems with these links.

Adobe Acrobat Reader

The Adobe Acrobat Reader is a free program to be used to view files in Adobe PDF format. It functions as a stand-alone viewer and also integrates with your browser to view PDF files on-line. The download is about 9 Mb in size. It is worth it.

You can download a copy of the Acrobat Reader from this web page:

http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html

OR

You can download it directly by using the following link. You may have to copy and paste it into your browser's address window. It should work.

The Expert Consensus Panel for Bipolar Disorder

The following participants in the Expert Consensus Survey were identified from several sources: recent research publications and funded grants, the DSM-IV advisers for mood disorders, the Task Force for the American Psychiatric Association’s Practice Guidelines for the Treatment of Patients with Bipolar Disorder, and those who have worked on other mood disorder guidelines. Of the 65 experts to whom we sent the bipolar disorder survey, 58 (89%) replied. The recommendations in the guidelines reflect the aggregate opinions of the experts and do not necessarily reflect the opinion of each individual on each question.
