Teri - The anxiety, nausea, and sleep disturbances are all start-up side effects of Effexor (venlafaxine). As your brain readjusts it's mix of neurotransmitters, these symptoms do go away. For me, the anxiety and nausea lasted only a couple weeks, but the insomnia bothered me for about 2 months and then went away. I still have some problems with anger outbursts (gee, really < sarcasm >).

I used Starnoc 10mg (zaleplon - Sonata in U.S.) to sleep, because I was only having problems with initiating sleep and it has an ultra-short halflife (approx. 1 hour). It got me to sleep and that is all I needed. I am no longer taking it, but I do have about 10 capsules left (just in case).

The cutting out of caffeine may help with some of this anxiety. I cut out coffee at first, but after 4 months of taking Effexor XR (300mg daily), I am now up to 2 cups a day (before noon, only).

I hope that this is of some help. - Cam
