5 mg is a good starting dose (the lowest pill size is 2.5 mg, and they aren't scored and don't break easily).
I think Ambien would be a better and safer choice, though. The usual dose for adults is 10 mg; if you're over 60ish, you might need to take 5 mg, and there's always the occasional person who needs 15 or 20 mg. Ambien has two main disadvantages: it doesn't last very long (I get a good four hours of sleep out of it, other people have better luck though), and it tends to work poorly unless taken on an empty stomach.
Zyprexa is *very* long-lasting: you might discover that the amount you need to take for sleep also makes you groggy during the daytime. It also carries the risks associated with all the dopamine-antagonist/antipsychotic drugs, although much less so than the older antipsychotic drugs (Thorazine, Stelazine, etc.). Seroquel is another of the newer antipsychotics; it doesn't last as long as Zyprexa, so it might be better if Zyprexa causes daytime sedation.
A downside of all these drugs is that they're expensive.
