I have been on Effexor Xr since April of this year. I started out taking 37.5 mg and I am currently on 225mg a day. For the most part, it has worked very well for me. I have been diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder and depression. My depression has lifted, but I have started in with anxiety. The sexual side effects are extremely frustrating to me! I have libido, but cannot reach orgasm. I am a 31 year old female going into her prime! I told my pdoc about this, and he started me on 10mg of Celexa, which I have been on for 4 days, and I am going to increase to 20mg in 3 days. He will then reduce my dose of Effexor SLOWLY, in about a month...when the Celexa is working (this is combat withdrawals from Effexor) My family doctor put me on Effexor XR. When I started seeing my current pdoc, he told me that he has never prescribed Effexor, due to side effects and discontiuation problems. Since the Effexor was working, he kept me on it. Anyway...After a month, I want to try to start tapering the Effexor. Then he wants to slowly increase the Celexa. Possibly up to 40-60 mg. I guess whatever works for me? I am scared it will not produce the same effects as Effexor (improved mood) He said if I still have sexual side effects, he will then add Wellbutrin SR to the Celexa.
If anyone has anything GOOD OR BAD to say about Celexa, please tell me. Any opinion is appreciated. I am scared to stop Effexor, but hopefully the Celexa will help any withdrawals it may produce. And I am going to taper slow!
