I've tried just about every antidepressant, and Prozac is my favorite. By itself I found it partially helpful. When combined with Zyprexa it is completely effective. I also take small dose Adrafinil which rounds it out nicely and abolishes any remaining dysthymic residual symptoms.

I have three side effects from Prozac. The biggest is insomnia, which is cured with the Zyprexa. Another side effect is increased sexual function. That's right, Prozac actually improves my love life, in contrast to all other antidepressants which ruined my sex life. And lastly, Prozac offers a tiny bit of daytime stimulation which I like. I notice I am a little sluggish if I skip a dose.

Technically and clinically Prozac is a lot different than the other SSRIs. Even though they keep inventing new SSRIs, I personally feel Prozac is the gold standard SSRI. After all, it is the most time tested tried-and-true SSRI there is.

My GP has the best results with Prozac too. He has many more patients doing well on Prozac than any other antidepressant. Even in the small town I live in, my GP has over 200 patients on Prozac, but only a handful on each of the other antidepressants. He says that is because he has the best luck with Prozac.

In short, I like Prozac. For me it offers a side effect profile that is tolerable and manageable.
