Hi Karen,

Thanks for your response. I agree that there are many disorders that really overlap in some way or another. Like you mentioned, ADHD sxs often co-occur with depression- and sometimes depression can occur with mania or hypomania. In my case, so far I know that I haven't had any of the major sxs of bipolar yet- irritability, "high-moods", or ups-and downs. It looks like research these days is moving more toward attempting to discover what treatments help what symptoms instead of what treatments help what disorders. That seems to me to be more the key- b/c of the overlap of sxs in different criteria for disorders.

I'm hoping that the addition of a stimulant may be beneficial- for the first couple of weeks on Parnate I experienced the well-known initial response to it's minor aphetamine qualities. I had the ability to really focus, do work, and like Loumama's case have the feeling of being outside of my own head for a change. But that feeling wore off. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for answers. If the stimulant route doesn't work, my guess is that a mood-stabilizer may be the next things to try.
Best of luck to you-

Mark

Sounds like it's probably real ADD in loumama, but Mark, be sure you find someone who really knows both disorders and what they are talking about. These disorders often mimic each other.

Within a few months I was in a rapid-cycle-mixed-state from hell. Then, thank God, I saw a real mood disorder specialist who determined that I may very well be both... but let's bail the ADs and go on a mood stabilizer, get stabilized and see what happens with the concentration problem. Well, I still had the concentration problems for a while but the closer I get to true stabilization, the less problem I have with focus. I can sit down and read a book for the first time in as long as I can remember.
