Are stimulants too hyped up?

Posted by Andreas on March 6, 2001, at 1:04:46

I was diagnosed with ADD about a month ago and was perscribed 36mg of Concerta to be taken at breakfast. After two weeks the dosage was raised to 36mg at breakfsat and 18mg at lunch to delay the zoned out feeling that I got when I wore off. I've also been taking 200mg of Wellbutrin for a few months for depression.

My question is this. The media seems to make a huge fuss over Ritalin and how dangerous/powerfull it is. "It's like speed man!" Heck, it's even a Sched II drug with Coccain and the other opiates. If the effect are so subtle why is there so much hype around it? When I first started taking Concerta I thought it would turn me into Superman or something. How do you know if the drug is working? The only thing I've noticed is a slightly better working memory and a more stick-to-itness. Like I said, it's very suble.

Or does methalphenadate just have the "speed" like effects on non-ADDers?
