Cam W or anyone-am I doing the right thing?

Posted by Julia on January 5, 2001, at 1:17:41

Cam,I wasinterested to read your response to St.James's
posting on staying on anti depressants for 8 weeks.I am now 4 months into an unresolved agitated depression, which came on 3 weeks after sropping dothiepin(tricyclic available in the UK).tried celexa for 2weeks ,but had intense agitation, jaw clenching etc, relieved partially by lorazepam.Gave up on that(should I have continued longer?)and tried reboxetine for 4 weeks, which did not really do anything although I had a bit more energy, but still very low, then onto doxepin for 8 weeks, and I am still very low.I am also on benzos-was on ativan, have just changed to klonopin. The only time I felt a bit better was when I was also taking mellaril with the doxepin: this seemed to do something(does it have an anti-depressant effect,or is it just sedation).I stopped it because of side effects-I just felt awful on it.I tried risperdal but that seemed to make me even flatter and lower. A couple of days ago we tried adding in celexa again at 5mg,but after 2 doses I had agitation/jaw clenching etc again and would have found it very difficult to persist with it.Now my psychatrist suggests trying phenelzine.Am having cognitive therapy, but am desperate for some relief to enable me to benefit from the cog.therapy.Is nardil a reasonable next step, will it help with the agitation? And is thre anything else that might duplicate the positive effect mellaril had? I am also currently on liothyronine(since 2 weeks ago) as augmentation/I have somre features of subclinical hypothyroidism.Help, please I am beginning to think the depression will never go, any comments welcome
