thanks again.
my pdoc says she doesn't like to prescribe zoloft, paxil or effexor due to the withdrawl problems many people have. i took zoloft for about 7yrs because my old pdoc was terrible, didn't really seem worried that the meds weren't making me all that much better. . . now i recognize what happens with SSRI's-- i get a little better, but not fully, and i get very aggressive.
when i tried wellbutrin it was the SR and i started low, titrated up. i had to go off it because i felt like my head was full of cotton candy-- i was completely spaced out and dopey. i felt absolutely goofy, and i took it for 2 weeks! i tried it 2 different times, and had the same results both times.
the last time i took remeron i was on 60 mgs because i had begun to gain weight and both my pdoc and another pdoc who runs a weightloss clinic said that there is less weight gain with remeron at higher doses. if that is the case, i can't imagine how big people must get on the lower doses! i gained 30# in 3 months. i am now at 45mg the past few nights, i'm considering taking it lower. effexor might work for me, it stimulates all the same receptors as remeron and more. i am just afraid of the withdrawl if i was ever to go off it-- i've seen some horror stories.
as for other mental illness stuff, i also have significant anxiety with my depression (it leaves when my depression does), and my moods do fluctutate some, but i don't think i ever get manic. my suicidal feelings are a bit of a rage response, i get angry, but then totally take it out on myself. my self injury usually happens when i am angry also, i cut when angry, pick when stressed. i am going to see my doc tomorrow, so if you have any other ideas feel free to share them :) i did have my thyroid checked last year, it was normal. my doc and i have figured out that the depression is norepinephrine based, but haven't figured out much else in terms of what might work other than maybe the tricyclics. well i need to study now, but thanks so much for replying.
