I've been taking Ambien 10mg for over a year now and while, being a guy, I haven't had to experience some of the problems you're having, I do have some short term memory loss. Mine is limited to falling asleep on the couch and not remembering being woke up to go to bed, or having my wife tell me something and not recollect it the next day. I've found that being VERY disiplined with the med can help. I am an insomniac andI always take it exactly 20 minutes before I know I'm going to bed. I try to be very consistent with my bedtime if I can. I would suggest that if you know that you have plans like company coming over, spending time with hubby, making love, etc., you avoid taking it prior to those times. I wake up groggy too, but usually can shake off the fog in 5-10 minutes. Ambien has has a very short half-life and is designed to dissapate from the system after 4 hours. It may take some time to acclamate to your system. I would definitely talk to your doc about the problems with your periods and cramping though.
I'm sure you will hear good and bad things about Ambien here, I've heard some real horror stories about it. Just remember that everyone's chemical makeup is different, and because of that people can react very differently to the same meds. Call your doc right away if your symptoms continue. There are a lot of other alternatives to Ambien for sleeping problems.
I'd like to ask a couple of questions if you don't mind. How long have you been taking the Ambien? Do you take any other meds with it, and if yes, which ones? Negative interactions between meds happens all the time, and our docs and pharmacies don't always catch them. This could be happening with you.
Anyway, this is my experience with the med, it's been very good for me. I hope others will give you input as well, and please, keep your doc informed about how you're doing! I don't remember making Love,either.But, if I do not take it. I will be up until the next morning. I am truly miserable the next day. In a Zombie sense, as well as nauseas. The horror, is that I am mostly only taking 10 mg. On very seldom occasion.... 20 or 15mg.I have also, been suffering from an abnormal period, abdominal cramping. And today, very light spotting. I do not know if this is any reaction. But, the only times I have had an abnormal perios in my all 28 years... was while pregnant. I know this isn't the case now, as I had a tubal ligation 3 years ago. Not to mention, going to two different ER's, 2 weeks ago. Just to have them send me home with abdominal cramping and abnormal bleeding. If anyone has had any sort of reaction... please do share!!!!!!
