> In case you haven't come across any of her writings you might find Dr. Kay Redfield-Jamison's writings of interest. She wrote the DMS description of manic-depression, is an academic and personal authority on the effects, having grappled with it and described her experience brilliantly in her book: "An Unquiet Mind".DJ,
"An Unquiet Mind" was one of the first psychiatric books I ever read. It was a real eye opener. It was early in the development of my depression. My counselor suggested it to me. As I look back on it, I think he was trying to help me come to grips with the fact that I have a serious problem but that I'm not alone, and that the sooner I accept it and accept treatment, the sooner I'll get better. That book started the whole recovery process by helping to accept that whatever life I had previously known, the rules were now changed. And I might need medication for life. That was a huge huge hurdle that took quite some time to accept. That book was a major plus in helping me overcome my hurdles. Good book. Good writer.
