Andrew Question. Amisulpride vs Zyprexa

Posted by JohnL on March 20, 2000, at 4:38:14

Hi Andrew,

I was hoping you might help me understand something here. I realize Amisulpride antagonizes presynaptic dopamine receptors. While trying to compare it to Zyprexa, all I could find in literature is that Zyprexa antagonizes dopamine receptors...no mention of pre- or post-synaptic. I'm wondering whether Zyprexa increases dopamine transmission, as Amisulpride does at lower doses, or whether it decreases dopamine transmission. Is it similar to Amisulpride or is it opposite. I know Amisulpride is specific to dopamine, while Zyprexa affects multiple neurotransmitter sites. Other than that, I'm trying to figure out how they are similar or different in regard to their effect on dopamine. Whatta ya think? You seem to understand this stuff real well.

Thanks,
JohnL
