i spent years scripting out my requests for medications from a doctor who should have known better than to prescribe according to a depressed high schooler's agenda.
(------not an attack on how you choose to obtain your meds. different people value different things.)
william, your quest doesn't seem to have found you the medication(s)that work for you, and therefore this nondoctor thing doesn't seem to be doing you any good at all. true, no one knows exactly what causes depression (and there are likely many interrelated and individualized causes), but i believe that psychiatrists who spout the imbalance of neurotransmitter theory are giving the most widely accepted and simplist answer they can give. and even if you say your, or anyone's, depression stems from the endoctrine system, the endoctrine system has quite an effect on the production and lifestyle of neurotransmitters, so once again theories become entangled.as for honesty, it is extremely important. the right p-doc will not judge you or condemn you for your actions. since behaviors and habits affect depression and medications, being honest with your p-doc is only taking responsibility for your health.
