The new metadate comes in extended release tablets preventing dosing twice, it's supposed to last for 8 hrs versus the typical four with Ritalin, however, Ritalin itself comes in extended release tablets but that has not been proven effective. Time will only tell about this one. Personally, I prefer Ritalin, it's always worked just fine.
