> Started on topomax thursday night and do feel numb, but somewhat depressed and a little groggy. Will this go away? I kind of feel rebellious like I want to sit and listen to Led Zepplin or Nirvana. I'm a 37 year old mother of 3 boys I can't act like this, but it sure feels good.

Amanda - Nothing wrong with listening to Zepp or Nirvana, although your boys will think you are old. Put on some Janis Joplin or Grateful Dead and really freak them out.

The Topamax will take a while to kick in. You must start the dose low and increase it slowly to avoid cognitive problems and confusion (could explain the Nirvana - haha). Recommended starting dose is 25mg once daily and increased by 25mg every week or two to prevent these problems. Don't expect any miracle effects for about a month, although some people notice a difference in a week. You may also notice some weight loss with this drug (most within the first 3 months). This is usually seen in people who are overweight to begin with. Hang in there, you should eventually notice a difference, but you have to give it time. The side effects you are describing will disappear as you body adjust to the drug (a week or two). Good luck - Cam W. P.S. Send the kids out to play and crank the stereo.
