I once was pretty chatty with the postman (Dean of Postal Services?) at my college who was quite openly gay and had a rather off-color sense of humor. This woman I dated briefly fell on the ice and busted her tailbone, just as you have, and had to sit on what she called a "butt pad". Anyway, she and I went in back to hang out with the postman, she carrying this suspect object. He stared at it quizzically. She held it up and said, simply, "butt pad." He replied "oh, no thanks, I haven't had that much fun in years."

(I swear to you I'm not making that up.)

Anyway, if you are in a lot of pain, I think you should pamper yourself. Don't feel guilty about taking some time off, especially if your occupation aggravates your injury. That's what disablity is for, almost by definition. And if your injury aggravates your depression because of the pain...it seems obvious you could use some recuperative time away from stress and discomfort. Be gentle with yourself and take a break. A couple weeks or a month off, in the vast scheme of things, is a small amount of time with the potential for enormous benefit is used wisely.

(A bit of advice from someone who took more than a month off because of depression. It helped.)

> I fell and fractured my coccyx last week and the pain is constant and I find myself crying all the time because of the pain. I am seeing a chiropracter and it is helping, but I am so afraid that the depression about this is getting out of control. I take Celexa 30mg and Buspar 45mg. My dr has wanted me to stop xanax and I had but I find I need it now to cope. My job requires a lot of sitting and I feel guilty if I go on disability but I just don't know what to do. Any support would be helpful. And, I guess my nickname here is very appropriate because the only relief I get from the pain is sitting on a donut shaped pad!
