Many studies, and indeed clinical reports have explicated on using Wellbutrin as an addition to an SSRI. Wellbutrin has, to some degree, led many people to claim that they feel "irratible". Like annoyed, or impatient, or just uptight. However, perhaps just a change in the dosage amount may be adequate. Wellbutrin (this is quite simplistic) is dopamine. It does not really work (in general, of course) as a good anxiety agent, nor for ocd or panic disorder, etc. It is in its own class and some love it, some definitely get irritable. It's mixture with an SSRI is not a bad try, and neither is effexor. Only trial and error will show what 'works' for you. However, effexor works on Neurepinephrine and this combined with Wellbutrin may cause unwanted effects, it could make you more irritable, or may not... Have you tried paxil or luvox? I'm not a doc, but I beleive that the SSRI's (supposing one had to chose one or the other, which is only theoretical) are the best treatment. If Prozac and Zoloft don't 'work', that's no scientific reasoning that luvox or paxil or serzone (which may be good with wellbutrin) won't be effective. It's really a coin toss. The doctor can make educated guesses, which are valid AS an educated "probability" but it's all clinical, there is no antidepressent that is better than all. Targeting many different neurotransmitters, i.e. their receptive activities does not neccesarily mean better. The main point, and also a very difficult thing: You Must do two things...
Give a medical trial a 'long' time. It can really take long, especially the SSRI's. Also, one cannot tell the effectiveness of a given medication unless one takes an adequate dosage. You will actually speed up this 'process' by adding a little more, etc to see if it is the med that is not effective, or the dosage. It sucks. But you have to be patient, and a good patient...
