past LSD use linked to dep/anx ?

Do you think moderate use of LSD as a kid in the mid to late teens could be linked to anxiety and depression as an adult?

Dissociation, depersonalisation and derealisation...yes.

But anxiety and depression? I don't see the connection so clearly.

What is your feeling about it?

I'm not sure, kind of just a shot in the dark. I did a reasonable amount of this drug in my mid to late teens and towards the end was experiencing alot of "bad trips"...this was around the time, I think, I started to notice anxiety go way up. I always had it before but....not sure just theorizing. I know that heavy use of this type of drug can cause alot of cns damage resulting in permanent schizo-like/reality issues (see Syd Barret for an extreme example)...but not sure about anx/dep.

I'm thinking here of the times I took acid and didn't enjoy it.

If you are enjoying acid and you take it, that's one thing.

But if you take it and you didn't enjoy it last time or this, what is going on?

Self administration of something that one part of you says is good for you and another part of you hates?

So I wonder if having that relationship to oneself could in itself be a cause for anxiety?

Towards the time I quit it, it did perpetuate horrendous anxiety at times and good times others...just became increasingly more and more onesided so I stopped. The after 'effects' of such bad trips would often leave me in a state or worse anxiety for many days before it faded...perhaps this never actually faded totally and led into a disorder itself, later in life. No idea really. Been reading studies recently linking adolescent substance abuse to psychiatric disorders as adults...particularly substance abuse in the teen years...an age of psychological developement and an age of experimentation for myself.

i see the correlation
i did acid one time, one hit and got so messd up. woke up the next day with major depression and anxiety. I remember it good. I had never felt like crying for no reason before. Then the next day at school I wanted to hide in the bathroom stall and cry.
i also got diagnosed with HPPD. and i have derealization alot, but Im over it. It doesnt really bother me anymore at all.

People I knew who did a lot of that ended up having bad trips most of the time.

It's certainly a less is more kind of drug.

Or maybe I mean: you could never take it instrumentally, hoping for any particular kind of effect, and if you did you would suffer for it.

hmmm....ive always theorized that it played a massive role in my anxiety although anxiety is "hosted" in my family to a large extent...I wonder if some of us can be "carriers" and not develop it until we screw around with brain chemistry like illegal chemical drug use. Certainly played a role in my teen years of making me really messed with anxiety. perhaps accellerated it's development...not sure but studies suggest this very thing...although not with lsd.

I used LSD for more days than not when I was 15 and 16 years old - two years - 1969 & 70. I believe it saved my life b/c I was so suicidal after a sudden realization (previously forgotten) of years of s/abuse and torture by bro and Catholic clergy. A few bad trips got me on another path and some successes but after a rape in adulthood I now struggle daily with Dissociative Identity Disorder, PTSD and Depression - and see a doc 8 hrs a week x 6.5 years for talk therapy plus meds. I have no regrets about the LSD but blame the trauma and abuse for the disorders. Examine why you chose to take the drug in the first place. Maybe then you will find a source for the depression and anxiety.
