How do you cope?

Posted by Meri-Tuuli on March 10, 2007, at 12:02:13

I'm struggling to cope with my schoolwork at the moment. As soon as I start to feel depressed or anxious, my concentration and motivation are the first to go.

Does anyone have any good strategies??

Thanks

Meri

Hi Meri,
I record all my lectures and when I don't feel like reading or anything else for that matter, I can usually at least listen to the prof. talk. Don't know if it is true or not but I have learned this month that our hearing memories lasts longer than our visual, maybe only seconds, but anything has to help when you don't feel like studying. My one prof. only tests us on what he talks about, so it works for him and my philophy prof talks about stuff I don't always understand, but if I barf it back to him on the tests, I get an A, even if I don't know what the hell I am talking about. LOL Someone told me once to record myself reading the texts and it will help to remember, I might have to try that. Good luck.

I'm feeling very much the same way. 2 tests, 1 group presentation, (this week) and 3 papers (next week). I find for me, if I take half an hour or so and go to the gym, I tend to feel better. I also try to take some time for myself. Saturday night when I should have been working on papers, I watched a couple movies with a friend. I find doing things other than school related stuff can help a lot. Oh, and also counting down the days... 5 more weeks of classes, then 2 weeks of exams, and I'm done for 4 months! And it's only 4ish weeks until Easter!! That'll be a nice 4 day weekend there!

When do you find you listen most to your lectures? I tape mine too, but I tend to forgot to listen to them. Class is only a 5 minute walk, so there goes listening to them on the way to class...

I listen to my tapes right before my exam and I try to listen to them the same week and revise my notes I took in class. It really helps cement it in my head. Haha, I didn't study today! LOL But I did physcial therapy, accupuncture, got an estimate for car repair, joined Weight Watchers, and made some good meals instead of eating out or conveince foods. My daughter had come down with the flu so I am giving her some extra love and watched Curious George. Now I plan on taking a nice bath (with Epson Salt,(thank you Lurpsiefor the tip). Then nightie nightie for me! lol
