older freon in airconditioners was colder

Posted by rjlockhart37 on September 9, 2016, at 10:34:31

i just realized that in the US (not sure about other nations) that there getting rid of Freon (r-22) in home air conditioning, and replacing it with Puron. So basically what that means is by 2020, if you still have a freon type air conditioner, freon will be very expensive and the cost will sky rocket over the next years.......because it will stop being produced......you have to totally replace your air conditioning system with Puron type air conditioner, you can't simply put puron in a freon type air conditioner.....that will be expensive too to replace the whole unit

but i've wondered, my grand mother's 1970's ford, that air conditioning was so COLD, i loved turning it on and having ice cold air, but what happened - in 1994, was got rid of R-12 type Freon, because of environmental and ozone depletion and replaced all cars with R-134a type freon..... they had totally replace the units, all older cars had to have new air conditioning system to be compatable with r-134a ....but it's not as cold as the original freon.....

still i want to go to like a autoshop and enhance the air conditioner with a add in refrigerant......make it really cold, so i get relived when i get in the car during hot summer days

car air conditioner use : r-134a type refergirant, before 1994 they used old freon (r-12)

not sure if anyone noticed but older air conditioners seemed colder.....

I don't know about older cars. Most of the cars I had years ago didn't have air-conditioning at all. The car I have now (6 years old) is plenty cold, so much so that I have to close all but one of the vents when I'm driving.

I think they started using air-conditioning as a standard in 60's....late 60's

but i also rerember the old window unit that was in my grandma's house was very cold, she had all these technologies from the 70's.....funny thing because i grew up thinking 70's technology was current when i was a kid lol, she had a VCR, tv, vacuum, radio, goodness the whole house was from the 1975 and stayed that way......

you can go to an auto-shop and they have add-in refriderants that you can put into you car AC, that will make colder......just go to a hardware shop, or place that's a car maintenance store....i'm in dallas, so i just go to wal-mart or o'rileys auto parts

lol i was looking on ebay to see i could buy an old air conditioner from the 70's to get colder air.....they didnt have any......

and R-12 freon is very expensive, it's no longer made, and almost all the current cars will not work with it.....it's mainly cars before 1990

R-22 is a the home air-conditioner Freon.....in 2010 all air conditioners manufactured stopped taking r-22....Puron is the next refrigerant, freon air conditioners will have to reply on recycled r-22 freon, and it's price sky rocket.... r-12 was the car freon and has been replaced with r-134a

what you also can do is google artic freeze or add in refrigerant, and put in your car, it may get as cold as the old r-12 freon did

http://rechargeac.com/products/our-brands/arctic-freeze

go to any auto-part store, and ask for add in

during the summer i don't want cool air, i want cold air....

Is this like how the pond in your back yard used to be bigger? Or, like, really, the temperatures obtained were, in fact, colder?

Maybe it's global warming :)
