Looks like Babble has died

Not much going on here anymore at all. For me, maybe that is a good thing.

seems like there's periods of large social posters and discussions, previous posters that made it lively, they leave, or just get's relaxed... and then babble goes into a quiet stage.....it may pick back up, right now it's just the main posters that have been here long time.....

and there's lots people that read posts even if they don't post anymore......

there does need to be a new spark plug again....

I'm usually the one who has posted this in the past and then others come out and seem to take offense. I so agree with you. Where did everyone go? Philllipa

I'm sorry if it offends anyone with my statement, and I'm sorry that happened to you Phillipa. I just remember when the boards were crazy busy many years ago and compared to that, it is VERY quiet on most of the boards. After viewing the archive list, I can easily see that comments have dropped off significantly.

For me, it's probably for the best as I am trying to spend less time online overall. This morning instead of the usual facebook with my cup of coffee (that I quit 2 weeks ago) I watched a bird at the feeder outside my window drinking my coffee. So peaceful and the only drama was when another bird wanted to push another one off. I guess people and other living creatures aren't all that different. haha!

Peace to you Phillipa!

I don't know know if or when I'll be back. I'll just go back to my nature sitting spot and relax. :)

The pace has changed, that's for sure. I feel nostalgic for how things used to be, sometimes. At other times I think it is better for me to be spending less time here. More time looking out the window, yeah. Groups of people are quite a lot like animals / groups of animals are quite a lot like groups of people, that's for sure.

I'm thinking that there will be unremitting posts if only because everyone will try to write the last post.

Now, now, you know, Dr. Bob will probably get the last post in. lol He has an advantage of knowing when he will pull the plug and say goodbye. haha!
I will never forgot the Babble meet in Chicago where you got your questions in! I love that.

I remember getting so many notifications, but I also spent more time here than I should have. I think the groups of animals appreciate me more, than the human variety. haha!

I see a trend back to spending more time with real so to speak people, going places, reading, all the old stuff. Could be the trend will be back to the basics so to speak. And have noticed the same on facebook where I do still frequent. Phillipa

Gosh, I like when you pop up...don't even care what you say :-) So cool to imagine some people still read sometimes, anyway.

{hi, how are things?}

Your screen name, for me, like a few others I won't try to name since I'll leave someone out, equals the nostalgia alex mentions. Well, at least she returned and stays for now...yeah!

p.s. - I never say 'gosh' IRL...well, almost never.

I am still here. More thoughtful and less inclined to open my mouth. Marriage #2 swirling the drain makes one pensive. A solitary life looks wise.

I'm sorry to hear this Clearskies. New starts seem more painful as I get older, I don't know about you though.

Solitude is good, some of the time. They say humans need interactions... but I think that is overrated.

Peace to you Clearskies <3

i think over the years we learn to be kind to ourself. and then... sometimes... we become aware that those around us sometimes aren't the kindest to us. or something like that. ones own company starts looking a lot more attractive than it used to.

i have a tendency to underestimate nature. i watch big brother as something like a wildlife show...

after reading happyflowers post about the birds... i went for a walk yesterday. it really was beautiful. each time i go i find myself saying 'this is so beautiful i really should do this more'.

nothing like the objectivity of not being of the same species, heh.

I take a peek here about once a week or so. I thought when I retired I would become a babbler again, yet sadly I seemed too detached from the community to get comfortable. I apologize for not recognizing your name from Chicago Hf, did you change it? I do remember well Bob devouring his chicken. LOL. I am fine though I still struggle to find pursuits to replace social work. I tutor disadvantaged 2nd graders in reading and visit a brain injured fellow at a local nursing home, but I have too much time on my hands. I know, fortunate problem. I am mostly healthy BPwise except for lingering dysthymia. I am resigned that I will go to my grave ruminating about the nagging regrets I have. Anyway, PB will always be a good memory for me. Thanks for the comment.

No problem, but I was known as HF, even then. I sat right across from you, next to Lurpsie Noodle.
I remember Bob proclaiming to me" You ARE a happyflower!" Well I was on my way, anyway. Ya, Bob likes his chicken!

I am fine though I still struggle to find pursuits to replace social work.

I honestly thought you were much too young to be near retirement right now. I do remember you feeling stressed about it though. (who isn't, in that field?) I am glad you are still doing good work though, helping others. :)

Perhaps they left to escape from the pathology of the Administration forum; a pathology that affects the entire website. That pathology might even dissuade potential members from joining the community. The behaviors and de facto posting policies of the owner / moderator are on trial. There will be no winners unless he comes to emulate the persona who founded Psycho-Babble 15 years ago or discovers some new incarnation of himself that works to enhance mental health.

Who would want to register at a mental health website whose owner spends each day chatting about antisemitism and defending the legalities of his posting behaviors towards its members? Nostalgic reminiscing of a much earlier time persists because the current dynamics have no potential of producing such memories in the future.

I remain here because I have no place else to go.

- Scott

I couldn't agree more with what you said, Scott.

The thing which is so hard to put completely out of mind is that this was once a forum uniquely able to offer understanding and genuine emotional connection when people most needed those qualities.

It is difficult to face the reality that ,now, control in every interaction is the predominant feature on the Administration Board. It is almost impossible to detect any sense of caring or compassion. Hard as it is to fully acknowledge, this seems most likely to be narcissism playing out its regular course.

Perhaps, if we fully recognize that, we might be able to minimize or eliminate the destructive aspects of Babble, and recreate or strengthen its valuable empathic aspects.

Babble is far from what it was. So many posters have left for various reasons, I left for many years myself. I read, but haven't posted much I need to start responding, not just thinking about what I should say.

I never go on the admin board. If it's so dysfunctional, why read or post to it? I really don't understand this.

I don't read Administration any longer either, and haven't for a long time. The problem is that I know what has been discussed there for the last several years - and it is distressing.

For me, it's a goodbye to Babble. I got some good things, like support, out of it in the beginning, but overall, it hasn't been the most positive thing for me in regards to healing in therapy. Often what is said in Babble psych, should be said IN therapy. It impeded my progress in therapy for a long time.

Plus there is the whole privacy thing, if I knew now what I didn't back then when participating, I wouldn't have. A lot has changed with online usage and seeing YEARS of posts with NO option of removing them, just seems to not be in most poster's best interest. Perhaps it's why this Babble has been dying. It's not staying with the modern times of online policies most websites have. Even Facebook can be deleted. There would be more participation, if posters knew what they wrote wouldn't be permanent for YEARS, or decades.

I also don't like seeing artist's work cropped and used without proper credit and/or probably without permission. Most artists I know would be thrilled to have their work shared, but not when it's mutilated and cropped. Artists put a lot of thought into their work, and the entire composition is important. It's all about respect, and paying to use their images in any form. When anyone right clicks to save any copyright image and saves it to their computer, that is the first law broken. The second would be using a copyright image online without permission. But most artists I know, it makes them livid when someone "adjusts" their art without permission. Most artists don't make a ton of money, and losing what little they get anyway is very sad to me. I can't stay here and continue to see this disregard to my profession.

Just because you can delete facebook etc doesn't mean it is really gone / it is completely unrecoverable by someone who knows what they are doing. There are ways of getting that information back... There are ways of getting back earlier versions of drafts of stuff I've written in Word... Ways of restoring my computer to certain points back in history... Fairly sure things like facebook are the same...

Just saying... That I'm not sure that any of those things are any safer. Just more willing to present the illusion of safety.

I remember this exhibition I went to... This artist was displaying his work... Which was him taking photographs of other peoples work. Some people were horrified that he was portraying other peoples work as his own or that he was mutilating their work by not presenting it in its original form or whatever... Other people felt that his photographs were his own art. What he did with their work (in photographing it) was every bit as much art as their work was...

I mean to say... That a case could be made of Bob as an artist in his presenting the photos that he takes... Of other peoples work -- he does eventually tell us what it is / where he got it... I think he only doesn't do that to start with because he wants us to view it with fresh eyes... Not to start out with preconceptions about it... And people have fun guessing or working it out...

Anyway...

I'm glad to hear that you are doing well. And I wish you the best for your journey.
