i saw the highlights of them from around the world. wow. impressive.

but on the other hand... i thought... if all those cities... instead of putting that money into fireworks... but that money into something like... healthcare.

...

but of course the 'how much it cost' thing is artificial because of ramifications in various ways.

i feel sorta sad, though.

I agree very much Alex. My biggest concern, in all of the deep-freeze we are having here in Canada, is the homeless population. These poor folks certainly where not 'celebrating' ANY of the holidays. Many of us are so close to homelessness too, just a couple dollars away...a pay-cheque or two away. It scares the crap outta me! :(

I'm sure they can cut in other places. Unless we want to stamp out 5 minutes of fun around the globe. maybe we can stand on the bridge and pop one firecracker. do you think the rest will go to the homeless? good luck, that's grim. maybe i can post incredibly depressing posts here 24/7 cause the fun ones will get shot down anyway. The shame I feel from the land of the buzz kill.

i think cities just like sick people have to have a little joy in their life as hard as that is for us. I don't know what percentage of those cities budgets are tied up in the fireworks shows. I emailed Sydneys city offices last year to tell them how much i enjoyed their shows. They have a whole division/office dedicated to those shows.

I'm on disability but even when I wasn't I wasn't doing squat for the homeless other than slipping them a few bucks at a stoplight. oh, i gave one guy a coat and he never wore it. i figured it went to booze. still i tried. I learned one thing. Don't give them money give then lunch.

I knew a guy in corpus christi, in his forties that was homeless. some co-workers said he inherited a lot of money. I asked why is he still on the street? They said he likes it.

governments have shown that they aren't going to address the problem. It will have to come down to us.

Someone came to the states but i can't remember from where. they were horrified at the amount of street people. It is a shame. Thank Reagan for that. What the us could solve the problen would be to stop building weapons. we have enough nukes now to destroy the planet one jet could pay for celebrations for years.

I'd give it to the homeless in a flash especially those whose countries we have recently invaded.

I like Reg Mombasa though, he's great. But I didn't watch the fireworks.

I think in our 'victory' in Iraq we killed hundreds of thousands of innocent people. I'm not positive on the number. 135000 more or less

I dunno how anyone can start wars when nothing goes to plan and the unexpected always happens.

Such optimists.

That sunni shia might be spreading to Turkey.

I liked Sydney too. Still have to check out London's (I'm spreading out my pleasures). Try Singapore's if you haven't seen it already.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fT_BNBDjyUE

It's from a broadcast so there's a few minutes of talk at the beginning and a few more camera angles than I'd prefer but it's nearly half an hour of great fireworks over water with the city skyline behind it. They've been doing it for years so I'm going to try some of the earlier ones another day.
