Just when i thought the hallucinations took a hike

Posted by Phil on December 14, 2013, at 23:40:33

Remember 30% of people will get these.
Today is the first time I screamed. first time a lady by the bed screamed bloody murder and I woke up screaming but just went back to sleep.
\Then a guy about a foot from my ear screamed loud like I've never heard, so did I. These aren't dreams and they are tactile..they can touch you.
Your brain is saying he's a foot from my ear so he's close enough to kill my @ss.
I read on a hypnagogic forum today and a young girl got out of bed and turned to the door(this is scary)she said it was my mother in a white nightgown which the girl said she didn't have. She said her mother was looking down but could still see her. She looked at her hand and she had a huge knife with blood dripping off of it.
Those are the type that I don't want to see.
Some people have them for years. Einstein had them and used them to further research. Not sure how.
So, I'm back to total fear of going to bed. Even leaving lights on everywhere isn't working anymore but I will not turn them off.

you ever get the sense that you're falling and jerk yourself awake? That's a hypnagogic hallucination.
No cure.
My lady friend on another forum saw what I wrote and pm me to tell me what I had. She's bipolar also. She had one where a dark figure was standing by her bed and kind of caressed her face.
This could be a repeat. Two dark figures dragged her out of bed, across the carpet and she said the kitchen floor was red hot as they started pushing her face onto it. I asked how did you sleep after that? She said she stayed awake for 7 days. She's had then for years.
I saw them described as vivid and terrifying. That's an understatement.

Phil no cure no med to suppress? I guess I shouldn't complain about nightmares then so I won't. Phillipa

Nightmares are not that fun either. My doc went up to 600mg of seroquel and it may have helped some but not much.
I remember 2 or 3 nightmares from decades back because they scared the hell out of me.
What's weird about these is sometimes you're scared and sometimes you aren't. Like the guy who walked through my locked bedroom door then said 3 nonsense words. Didn't phase me.
Wonder if they are doing research on this. Kids get it a lot.

I had nightmares as a kid a lot. Now my nightmares tend to be pretty easy to decipher. I have a fight with my husband and dream he is cruel to me and, when I try to retaliate, I am paralyzed.

When I was extremely depressed, I had nightmares about suicide.

I've had nightmares from years ago that were so vivid, I still remember every detail.

Sleep is strange. My worst issue with sleep is coming to semi-consciousness and feeling paralyzed -- like I can't breathe or move. I try to call out for help, but can't open my mouth. I don't know how long this lasts. Probably only a minute or so. But it feels like forever. Eventually, I waken enough to tell myself that I'm dreaming.

My other weird issue with sleep is sleep-walking. I've woken up in the kitchen, walking around the upstairs hall. Once, when my daughter was visiting, I came in her room at 2:00AM and told her there was door I needed to go through, but I couldn't find it. She led me back to bed.

I've never felt that meds had any effect, positive or negative, on this.

what you described is sleep paralysis. Sometimes kids get night terrors and sleep paralysis all in one. Grownups too.

Mine are at night while going to sleep hypnagogic. Some people get hypnopompic when they are waking up. but yeah, it's that little opening.
Most are very short some go longer.
