I figured it out.

Posted by Partlycloudy on October 18, 2013, at 11:05:03

The holiday would have been a more pleasant experience if my husband had been walking alongside of me, instead of 10 paces ahead. He's very impatient with the speed of which the globe turns. I can't help him.
I can only try to help myself. It still sucked, but it might have sucked less if I'd had company.

This is also a big complaint of my wife. Men are stupid this way, I guess. What does puzzle me a little is I notice that she keeps the same pace behind me and doesn't fall behind farther, so why not join me?

My legs are half his length. It's not physically possible. Also, he misses all the interesting stuff by blowing past it. I do a pop quiz on the day at the end and he hasn't a clue what he has sped past. Different priorities... I paid for an archaeological tour; he is wasting his time?

I'd be right there with you on the archaeological tour PC. Funny, I always seem to lag behind while shopping.

but it is painful to hold hands with someone when you don't have the same walking stride. because the swinging is important for balance. so you need to walk like you are walking a three legged race to get the swinging right.

i used to hold hands with my dad when i was little... but it only seemed to work if i really stretched out my stride...

my mother used to walk too fast... i felt exhausted watching her. exhausted being dragged along by her.

but have you ever tried walking with people who naturally walk slower? it really is very painful...

i'm not sure on the compromise position.

My late mother used to say the only time people should hold hands is to keep from hitting each other. ;-)

My husband tends to speed up and walk ahead of me and I have to run to keep up, then he walks ahead again. He says I walk too slow. We tend to hold hands only when we are walking a short distance -- not on longer walks.

My daughter, on the other hand, wants to hold hands constantly whenever we walk together (or link arms). She will slow her pace to mine to stay by my side. As much as I love this in the abstract, sometimes I just want to let go and let my hands move with my legs.

I am very touchy. I long to link arms or entwine hands when we walk. Lasts about 1 1/2 strides before I am swinging on my own. I would prefer more PDA. Not so much when I am in crisis in public, that's when I want the big black hole to swallow me up.
