we are having weird weather this year today.

Posted by floatingbridge on June 28, 2011, at 17:59:51

This is what my son said today. A few days shy of July, and it is raining buckets in CA. This is unheard of here, at least by the locals experience.

Kaua'i, a few weeks back, mid-pacific, and the locals there said the trade winds had just started unseasonably late. Very windy (which I liked).

Yes, it has been weird.

Spring is normally dry here, at this latitude, and there was endless rain. We even had things called 'inland tsunamis'.

Now winter has come and it is very warm.

This is in line with the predictions that the weather will become more extreme as the system heats and becomes more dynamic.

Inland tsunamis?

Weather systems. It was interesting going somewhere else to appreciate the global changes (the term not used in any specific way). This might be
easier to grasp than the economics.

100 degree weather is predicted for the weekend. Where I am, the weather feels more spikey, which is what you might be saying. Like a unprecedented summer downpour and cold (60 degree day) followed by heat, though heat spikes have always occurred, even in my
memory. But even then, there is a way the temperature builds that seemed more predictable.

Generally, the trend has been colder.

I wonder what the Atlantic is like right now.

It varies but here in Boston, we've had an unusually cold and rainy June - temps going down to the low fifties and even forties. Until last week, I slept in my winter pajamas and walked around the condo with a fleece jacket on. Now it's beautiful, but we are prepared for the inevitable horrible heat wave, which have been getting worse and worse each year. When I was a kid, the July heat waves meant temps in the nineties. Now we have temps in the 100s.

Things are unstable from year to year. Sometimes, May and June are as hot as July used to be. Septembers have become very hot.

Hi emmanuel, East Coast summer heat waves are wicked. Good luck! Lots of iced drinks? What saves me here from confinement to one air conditioned room is the aridity. The only thing that topped the east coast was the mid-west. That felt like massive weather.

I only just shed my fleece and my ugg boots recently, but had my boots on
yesterday and half of today.

What is hurricane season looking like? Maybe too soon to tell.

East Coast NC weather is now hot from May through July and starts to cool in August and winter comes sooner and is colder. Hence a place like Florida where is is starting to get cold in winter would be like NC used to be. Can't handle being confined. Phillipa

You can click on this

I can't find the best footage.

Granhtam is almost 100 miles west of Brisbane. No one could ever have expected a wall of water to wash the town away.

This was at New Year or just after.

Is an inland tsunami is a very very large flash flood?

Clicked on a link to Lord Mocton (sp?) about Australia being driven to becoming a third world country. Advising against a carbon tax and mining restraints.

Is Australia feeling weather changes more directly?

That's alot of questions :-/ in a row.

That seems par for the course with Lord Monckton, the journalist, non-mathematician and non-climate scientist.

In a sense Australia is a third world country....in the sense that it is a quarry.

And our politics is deplorable.
Or is that 'Our politics are deplorable'
Or 'Our politic is deplorable'?
I think the last one is the best.

I stopped listening.
I go to bed early and have eccentric hours that do not permit TV watching.
This way I am up bright and early to talk with you on Babble.

Yeah, this 5 metre wall of water descended on Grantham in a flash flood after 6 weeks of rain and washed it away and killed almost 20 people?
I was in Japan when it happened, but know the area well.

"They died from the causes of death.

:-/ Well, he did have a very cultivated author picture. Sorry I might have inquired about a limelight seeker. What
he said was alarming, and I suppose that was one of his aims.

Are you having any luck getting a coherent sleep cycle?

I am wondering what is being mined in Australia. I would like to go.

The article was very dramatic, ending with the woman who wanted to jump into the water, but her daughter held her back.

There was a local woman here. Her car started to roll off a cliff w/her daughter. She threw herself in front of the car, a four-wheel. Not the same magnitude, but the urge.

I enjoyed different use of English.

It's bare bones here today, sigi.

It is for China, iron ore from this ancient land, up in the north west.

which is a very long URL.

I like the word usage American English because it reminds me of my childhood. It is an older English, and this was a surprise to me. I had thought it was the other way.

American English. You heard this in school? My parents had a subtle hodge podge accent. My English Canadian grandmother would talk about the King's English :D. Interesting expletives....

Expletives are another topic.

The heat wave I mentioned is here.

Most are happy with that, given the national holiday weekend, (speaking of English). It is about 90 at my house now.

I would never have thought it at school. It was all thru and stuff like that.

But here I have heard people say 'Oh my', and 'horrid'.

This was how my grandparents talked.
