Fighting depression

Posted by TexasChic on November 23, 2009, at 19:00:58

I'm hanging in there, looking for a job, trying to reach out to a few people here and there, but I have been really fighting the depression. Its gotten overwhelming lately. My current doc just prescribed Ritalin to help with the 'not ever wanting to get out of bed thing'. I've only taken it twice, it definitely gives me some pep, but I still feel pretty down. Anyway, I just felt like sharing that - don't really know why. Guess I just felt the need to reach out to people who understand.

This past weekend I went to hang out with an old friend I haven't seen since 9th grade. We got in touch on facebook and have been talking a lot. It went well, although I was very nervous (for those who don't know me, I've turned into quite the recluse over the last several years). Now I'm all worried, did she think I was weird? Needy? I guess I'll just have to wait and see. No matter what, at least I gave it a shot. Which is more than I've done in quite a while. Its hard to try to form friendships when you're depressed.

I think it's great that you took the chance and met with her. And I nearly always find that I worry about my behavior far more than anyone else does.

((( TexasChic )))

I'm sorry you're having all these job difficulties.

Thanks Dinah. I 'm trying - but its not easy. I almost canceled going to visit with her about 15 times, but I'm glad I went. She's a very sweet caring person, someone who would make a great friend. As long as my my mental issues weren't apparent enough to scare her off. We'll see how it goes. I just wish I could find a decent job. I know I had just as many problems when I had a good job, but not having a full time job and insurance is just very hard on the ego. You just feel so incomplete. I'm still trying though.

Hi Sweetie,

I'm not here much these days, but I'm glad I popped in & saw this.

((((((((((((((you)))))))))))))

I'm so sorry you're feeling so crappy. Amazing that while feeling like that, you were able to nudge yourself bigtime into meeting with her! You always amaze me TC.

Ya know, you make me think of the Energizer bunny.... you just keep going & going. I admire you. I know it must be tremendously hard & that's why I admire you all the MORE.

Your words mean SO much to me! I felt a lot better today. Funny how you can feel so different from one day the next. I'm sure I'll be back down again, but it helps to know others understand. Thanks yall!

You're MOST welcome. So glad you're feeling better. If there are ups & downs, at least we can know that there ARE ups!

I understand how you're feeling. Sometimes I wonder if I'm ever going to get a break from fighting this. I'm glad the Ritalin is helping a little bit and that you were feeling better during your last post-- hopefully you'll have more good days than bad ones. I agree with you that this board is good for support-- I just started posting and it's a good community (thanks for replying to my post, btw).
