My Mom yelled at me for not wearing a bra

Posted by Deneb on June 23, 2009, at 20:31:25

My Mom yelled at me for not wearing a bra outside today. I don't know why she just noticed. I never wear a bra. My boobs are small.

She said she could see the outline of my nipples.

She said only crazy people don't wear bras, people who are crazy or with Down's Syndrome or something.

I told her it was not illegal to go bear chested in Ontario and that I just like the comfort of not wearing a bra. I know it sometimes isn't socially acceptable, but I wouldn't care.

I am shameful to my Mom.

Is it really that bad to not wear a bra? I just like being comfortable. I am not that into clothing most of the time. I only wear a bra on special occasions. I hate the darned things.

I guess I will have to wear my nipple covers. I hadn't realized my nipples were that noticeable.

Deneb, why do you have nipple covers if you haven't noticed that your nipples are noticeable?

It's just too bad society isn't as accepting of women's bodies. Men get to go around topless outside and I think women shouldn't be afraid too also.

A lot of men have man breasts that are bigger than mine, but do they have to wear a bra?

I find no shame in breasts. I think it's awful, the unfairness of it all. I know life isn't fair though. At least I don't go around topless. I would if more women did it though. But the sad fact is that people will stare at me disapprovingly if I go topless and I'd attract lots of unwanted attention.

I know my nipples are noticeable sometimes, depending on what I wear. If I wear a plain one coloured thin t-shirt or something, I know my nipples will show so I wear nipple covers or a bra. I wore this graphic T-shirt today and I thought it would draw enough attention away from my nipples to make then unnoticeable.

Deneb, I don't really know what to say. I will say that I'm concerned about your thoughts on one hand and on the other hand, I agree with you somewhat.

In this day and age, going without a bra is not like going without one in my day. It was the "flower power" years and since almost every woman that I knew went without a bra, it wasn't noticed so much.

Here is where it gets sticky...I've never, ever believed that if a woman is dressed in a short skirt or shorts, she is placing herself out there as a target for some sort of male violence. I simply don't buy that. BUT, I've talked to enough men (offenders) that I do realize that dress can have something to do with how a man looks at us. It is a lose-lose situation in my mind. Damned if we do and damned if we don't stand up for what we believe is right.

I,if I were there, would gently talk to you about it and see if we came to a meeting of minds concerning the situations that we are bound to experience.......I'm tired.....this is sounding weird to me and I hope you know what I am trying to say.
Pat

I've never had trouble with unwanted male attention. In fact, no guy has ever approached me to ask me out on a date first.

I dress for comfort.

I kind of wish guys would at least sometimes look at me LOL, but nope, they ever do.

No, maybe, but she is ashamed of her age if not your youth. It's natural. She was young once.

I went braless for many years. First thing to come off is the bra in the house. Yes I've heard it's legal now to go braless is parts of Canada. In France the women sun by the Thames River on Rocks topless during their work lunch hour. Liberating. Phillipa

I'm with you on the first thing to come off thing. But seriously, are there actually places in Canada or anywhere for that matter where it's illegal NOT to wear a bra? Are there bra police?

;)

LOL Bra police, that's funny. I certainly hope not! I think it's OK. I think it is technically legal for women to go topless in Ontario.

Years ago I read in The Spectator that there were certain cantons in Switzerland where it was illegal in apartment buildings after 7pm to urinate standing up.

Sigi besides the bra police when I was in Switzerland they policed the men's room to make sure the seat was up all times of day or night. Pretty sneaky huh???? Phillipa

In Ontario, where I live, it's legal for women to go topless. Gwen Jacob was acquitted on charges of indecent exposure for going topless on a hot day, on the grounds that the law was discriminatory by gender. Her acquittal was upheld on appeal to the highest court.

According to this article on wiki, it's legal in two other provinces, and in many places in the United States. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Topfreedom

I just recently wrote about this very thing.

I think the thread was about aging & choice of clothes or something.
