Link for the first 'Album' of my pottery photos

Posted by Kath on May 18, 2009, at 17:10:31

A lot of these are actual size; haven't re-sized all photos.

This is the jewellry that I made. I buy the chains, clasps, etc & make the whole thing. Feels rather amazing to look at them in this album & think that I made these things from 'mud'!! LOL I often say that pottery is amazing - ALL of it is made from mud & colour!!

This is a work in process. Hope the link works.

So lovely.
And how precious are the tulips?
Who knew that mud could be transformed into
something so lovely.
Some of it reminds me of the volcanic rocks
in Hawaii.

I love the originality in your work.
Thanks for sharing it.

& I like it that you told me your favourite!

I love pottery - & love the 'fiddly' work of putting the jewellry together.

Thx Phil - on my screen, there are 3 rows with 8 items each, then a bottom row with 3. I'm not sure which your fav is & I want to know!

Thx gg,

With the Raku ones, ya NEVER know how the glaze will turn out. The ones with the non-shiney finish & sort of pink & turquoise colours amazed me. I'd never seen that kind of look before & I've done quite a bit of raku.

Hi Gobble (lol)

I am a member of a pottery guild & it has a sale twice a year.... May & Dec.

Over the years I've made a lot of jewellry & I only more recently started to take pictures of my stuff.

I make lots of other things too & now that I know how to create albums with links, I'll be posting more photos.

Jewellry ALWAYS used to sell, but more recently it hasn't sold as much. Not sure why. Maybe the style of jewellry lately is more "clunky" than mine tends to be.

After my "show & tell" at my Group Therapy a few weeks ago, I sold 4 brooches!!! I haven't got the brooch photos from my camera to computer yet.

I don't know how to go about selling them really. I tried leaving some at a somewhat classy ladies clothing store in my town, but none sold. :-)

I might try an arty-type store in a nearby town. Most of the necklaces were priced at $20. Some of the smaller ones were less. I personally think they're worth more than that - or I guess I should say that if they were in some classy store in Toronto, they'd sell for a heck-of-a-lot more. Same with my wall pouches, which I just made an album for!

:-)) Thx for your interest, Kath

PS - for at least a couple of years, y'all (or some of y'all) have been asking to see my pottery. Finally I have learned how to make photo-albums for you to see. I have more photos, also, which I'll make into more albums some time.

I think you're right about jewelry styles changing. Right now, I see
a lot of edgy and bold designs. And layers using different mediums.
But, customer base has also changed for jewelry. I own some of
the new looks, but I prefer wearing whatever makes me feel good -
regardless of trends.

Your dishes are very pretty - I bet you'd sell a lot of these at all kinds of
craft fairs. I love the "peacock black pearl" finish on your wall pouches.
They remind me of a ceremic/glass wall sconce in my bedroom. I wonder
how your's would look with a light inside it? I think they would make
very cool wall sconces.

Kath, my best friend's also an artist, and she's had her work in all
kinds of stores...artsy, mainstream, and even Neiman's, but she
prefers to sell at art fairs as she gets to keep most of the money.
It's hard work, but she has a great time traveling all over the country,
and sometimes makes good money. She gets beat-up a lot by her family
because they don't think she has a "real" job,but I tell her that she is a
true success for following her dream - I'm very proud of her!

Please do keep posting your beautiful work, Kath. It's called art therapy -
for me, much more therapeutic than talk therapy.
So, thank you.

:) Gobbledygook - a sad, but lovely turkey.

~ ~ I don't know if I'd have the energy to take all my stuff & set up more than our 2 sales/year. Perhaps once my son isn't living with us any more/has his life more together - I expect I'll have more energy. Also DH wants to retire in about 2 years. Mind you, we'll be moving to the country, so I'd have to see about a kiln & our finances will be reduced, so not sure if the hydro would be affordable for that, but at that time, I'll see what I think.

> Your dishes are very pretty - I bet you'd sell a lot of these at all kinds of

~ ~ Thanks. I LOVE painting the butterflies & dragonflies. I take AGES doing it, with very small brushes. My brooches aren't on an album yet, but I LOVE painting very very small scenes on some of them. Like river's edge with bullrushes, flowers, birds in sky, etc. Some of my brushes have only about 12 hairs in them - really fine.

>I love the "peacock black pearl" finish on your wall pouches.

~ ~ That's an idea. The light wouldn't shine through the pottery though, but maybe I could make a candle holder with a nice wide, deep bottom part, for safety, & the light would be shining against the back of the stand! Thx for 'sparking' an idea!!!! I like coming up with practical items for Raku. You can't use it for food, etc - it's not food-safe. Also, can't use Raku vases for water! Dried flowers only. I made some nice business card holders once. Most have sold. My therapist bought one!

Maybe one day you'll be a happy turkey!!

Thanks Jan. I really love doing it!

Have a slab of clay that I made & had to put a damp dish towel over it, under plastic to get it moist enough again!

Want to make something with it before I go to my daughter's on Sunday.

~ ~ Thanks BayLeaf.

I'm giving the pinkish one to my daughter. She said she loved it when she saw it, so I asked her if she'd accept it as a gift. She said, No! That she'd trade massage, or EFT or something for it, so I guess I get some nice massage or some healing work when I go out there for my week!!

I can't believe I missed this thread!

I'm so impressed with your artistry, Kath. I'd be happy if I ever became a decent craftsman, and never aspire to anything more.

They're lovely, and so delicate, or so it appears from the photos showing scale.

Have you tried the internet site, Etsy I think it's called? I've never been there myself, but I hear others speak of it.

Will soon have an additional album of most recent » Dinah

stuff.

Thanks Dinah.

I realized that I should put measurements or put a penny or ruler or pencil or something in the photos to give an idea of scale.

:-))) I saw someone's jewellry site on Etsy. I might do it if I ever got around to it (which feels like 'never')

xoxo Kath

PS - keep on with your art! You should see the first things I made at my first class!!! LOL they are 'light years' away from stuff that I did even a year later!
