CRAPPY day at work!

Posted by TexasChic on April 13, 2009, at 20:49:21

I've had my ups and downs there, but this was the first time I actually thought, "Maybe this isn't the place for me". Of course, I don't know how much has to do with my lack of meds, and in retrospect that may have had something to do with my extreme feelings today. But basically, I had a really messed up job, and I spent so much time trying to make it right, only to keep getting negative feedback from all directions. Then my nerves got the better of me and I started screwing up. Then I tried to fix things before anyone knew I had screwed up. Then I screwed up even more. I finally got it finished, but by then I was way behind when we were already way behind. So my supervisor did a lot of sighing and totally exasperated looks before taking some of my work to do herself, which is when I finally started crying. I don't THINK anyone noticed though, which is good. I just kept going, and by the end of the day my supervisor was all nice again and talking about how this and that and other things out of our control made us behind. But I was still really frustrated, and I know tomorrow will be a tough day as well.

Anyway, I'm really too tired to explain this well, but one thing I've noticed is my supervisor has this thing about being overly dramatic and making herself seem so-o-o indispensable. She also goes out of her way to show how SHE WASN'T WRONG, which can be irritating, especially when she WAS wrong!

People can be so irritating. I wish I could work with animals or amoebas or something. Okay, so I don't know what amoebas are, but they sound better than people right now!

Texas,
I was reading the jobs board a few days ago and saw you posting when you first got the position. I was curious if this is the same job. The situation(s) you were describing then sound pretty similar to this one--lots of drama and mood, not so much talking about things. That can be very frustrating.

And, the "I'm right" thing your boss has, oh lordy, I have that BAD. It has been such a challenge to learn to hold my tongue and let things go. It's usually better for the many, but hard for the one (if I'm the one...).

Hope you get a good night's sleep.

Hi TC - ((((you))))

Sorry. Good that you realized stuff about your supervisor!!! So hopefully, when her drama kicks in, some self-preservation mechanism in you can quickly surround you with your 'duck-suit' so you can let it run right off you, like water off a duck.

Let us know how you're doing.

Are we doing a countdown regarding when you can get your meds? Is it 30 days??

luv you, Kath

Thanks Shar! I had to go back and read the work post to remember what that was about, and it was actually another job that I held for only about a month. My current job really isn't bad, especially compared to my past experiences, but yesterday was worse than usual. My current job is actually usually pretty pleasant. Today went better, but like you said, I have to make myself hold my tongue and let things go, which is tiring.

Thanks Manic, you're too funny. BTW, I wouldn't know what snog was if it weren't for Harry Potter! So educational!

Thanks Kath! You're right, its good to know these things and be able to plan how to handle it. She's really not too bad, but she definitely has her moments! Part of the problem is my not standing up for myself when she starts explaining how everything that went wrong was because I did this or that. But sometimes its difficult for me to find the words to explain, especially when I'm feeling intimidated. I get frustrated and shut down. But, she is pretty understanding, and does seem to be trying to be helpful most times, but the overly dramatic gesturing sure does irritate me! I guess maybe I'm a bit irritable after some of the things I've been through! Be a duck, be a duck... (I'll be repeating this to myself).

LOL about be a duck! LOL

Maybe eagles have water-resistant feather also. I think I'd rather hear you do the self-talk of be an eagle!! ;-))))))

If be a duck doesn't flip you into inferior mode that's cool. If it does somewhat, 'ducksuit time' would work.

It sound like you're doing really well, given all the job-crap-baggage you have. Hopefully if we think of a bus you're on with all kinds of your old job-crap-baggage tied on top like they do in some 3rd world countries, hopefully, as the bus bumps along, that baggage will jostle (sp?) itself & fell off quite quickly!

I send love & hugs, Kath

Thanks you guys. Today was much better. I did a couple of things today and yesterday that were noticed as above average. So that was good. I think I have a need to have my intelligence acknowledged. Lots to think on...

As for meds, I'm more than ready to get back on Prozac. I have felt depression beckoning, and am afraid it will only get worse if I don't smother it into submission soon. A little Xanax now and then would certainly help smooth things out as well. I may be coping, but not in the way I would like to. It's good to get a chance for comparison though.

I became eligible for insurance the first of April, but I have to wait until May in order to avoid the whole preexisting condition scenario. What a world, what a world...

YAY about the above average acknowledgement!!!

Poo about having to wait 'til May, but it will be worth it to avoid any probls.

Have you ever tried EFT for in the meantime...it helped shift my mood bigtime this morning.

Love, Kath
