What a wonderful day! Snow days are just the best.

There is something magical about snow - especially when (or because) it is so transient. There is a lot of quiet energy to it.

I'm glad you had a great day. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Seldom.

I saw it on the TV screen while the dentist was futzing around with something in my mouth.

I thought of you-- it looked like an actual STORM! not just a little flurry or gentle snowshower.

Very very cool!

No snow here. Its gotten cold enough in the past week to dig out my super warm coat (versus the plain wool one I wear most of the winter), but tonight I have the window open. Hopefully we'll get some by Christmas!

Snow on cars and roofs in Austin on Wednesday a.m. Gone immediately. It sleeted here for about 1 hour. I hate the cold. That is why I moved to Zone 8B. :-)

Is that how it usually works? I actually let my husband turn the heater on today and yesterday. I'm hunched over my computer trying to work and my fingers couldn't type, so I figured I'd better give in.

They didn't let my son play with the snow at school. :((((( How unkind. There was still some left when he got home so he and the dog went out to play.

I haven't had time to get the photos ready in any way. But when I do I'll find somewhere to post a picture of my pup in the snow. She couldn't possibly have had more fun and neither could I.

Ok, back to work. The stress is causing some physical sypmtoms that are in turn making it harder to work. Sigh.

Not at all! I do the same thing with Babblers! My son must wonder where on earth all these friends are hiding since I never go anywhere.

I wish I were a better example, though. I've lived here all my life, except for two years when I was very young. My ancestors have been here for at least a couple of hundred years. Yet I have somehow not absorbed that much local color. My husband laughs when I try to do a New Orleans accent. :)

Hmmm... That sounds like a fun goal for the cooler months. To absorb all the local flavor I can get. To try to be a better absorber. How can I manage to live among crepe myrtle and sweet olives and manage to just observe?

I'm sitting here with the windows open and its still in the mid 70's in my apartment. And for the few weeks prior to last week I had been constantly running the heater!

Its not unusual here to run the heater and air conditioner on the same day (which I've been doing off and on for the past week). But we're supposed to have a cold front coming in soon. So we'll see what happens.

I really hate the cold, but snow is so pretty! If its going to be cold, we might as well have snow. Otherwise its just cold and brown and dreary.

Or at least that's one way to look at it. I was forbidden to do any other work while I was working on this project, so I have a number of other people justifiably upset. I need to get on that this weekend.

And there will probably be mop-up work on the big project.

It's later than it was supposed to be. I'm not sure how much trouble I'm in. But they don't sound like they're going to fire me. Yell at me maybe. They'd scared me senseless, since if I lose my job, I lose my therapist. That seemed unthinkable.

Sigh. I've done nothing on Christmas. The tree is only half up. I've gotten no presents. We haven't listened to any Christmas music or specials. The house is a wreck.

But I'm finished with this at least and the second I finished I got sleepy as all heck.

I did upload a photo. I think it looks like that because I don't know how to use the camera yet. But I really like the result anyway.

(((((((((((you)))))))))))

Wish I lived near enough to come over & help you (when I'm feeling better). Funny thing. I can help others with their houses...tackling mine is quite a different matter.

I have 3 snowmen decorations on a shelf in the living room. The tree has been moved (undecorated) to the back room, which nobody uses, as I thought I was having a reaction to the mold on it. (I read that real Christmas trees carry quite a bit of mold). :-(

So I'm feeling distinctly un-Christmasy.

I LOVE you photo. It catches the movement of doggie playing in the snow. Tried to add a comment, but couldn't.

When I read llurpsie's post, I thought "That's what we should have named her." She was born Christmas Eve, so she has a Christmas name that doesn't really suit her.

She is such a sheepdog, if you're familiar with them. She's so sensitive to the people around her. I sat down after finishing my work today, and she hurled herself upon me as if I'd been gone a week. Which I suppose I had, but she knew just when I'd come home. She also hears me wake up, even if I don't move. She barks and mumbles at me until I get up. My husband lets her out, so that's not it. She just apparently thinks people shouldn't loll around in bed. And she's got the sheepdog stare. I always get the feeling under that direct gaze that maybe I should go to another paddock, or whatever it is that sheep do. It feels wonderful at times, yet it's very unnerving at dinnertime. She always manages to get a teensy scrap of food, which is something I just don't do ordinarily.

I'm currently trying to ease her into "Lassie", because to me she looks very much like the first Lassie, Pal. I've tried a few other nicknames over time, but none have really stuck.

We've had better luck with our Maltese, whose name also doesn't fit her but who has become nearly universally known as "Daddy's Little Princess." What it lacks in brevity it makes up for in accuracy. :)

Maybe instead of going for shorter, I should go for longer. Mamma's Little Lassie. Or Dinah's Little Lassie. Or something like that.

It's funny. Usually my dogs go through so many nicknames that what they end up being called is nowhere near what they start with. I must be getting older. I haven't made up any ridiculous songs with their names inside lately. We used to bellow the most horrid songs to them, and it made them so happy.

We haven't done the awful song thing, but we certainly have done the awful nickname thing.

Ginger (my WONderful cat, who was a stray & adopted me) at one point was called Genghie Khan

and Gingivitus!!

My daughter's cat, who is no longer with us was Needlenose or Noodelnose!!

My son's cat aslo nlwu - I'd call "My Little 1,2,3" !! ????? Don't ask me how THAT came about!?

You're right - she does look like the original Lassie! She's beautiful.

Because she has taken it upon herself to get me out of bed one way or another if I'm not up by seven-thirty or eight. She refuses to go outside that first time for my husband. And she seems to be quite worried about me.

I stumble from my bed scowling like a horror film monster and lurch to the door to let her out while she barks happily and nips my ankles.

Oh, the songs were wonderful. I had this dignified little girl whose song was set to the old "Comet" song. And an even more dignified sighthound who had to listen to

"xxxx-y-burger, my xxxxx-y-burger, how I love my xxxx-y-burger"

Tho honestly I have to say he loved it. He'd wind himself around my lower body like a cat and thump me with his tail.

~ ~ Amazing how our beloved animals tune in to us! If I'm upset, my lovely cat Ginger, hovers around me even more than usual He's more like a dog than a cat. I call him a 'cog'. I also call him 'carbo-cat' because he loves carbohydrates. If I haven't put away the groceries yet, he'll chew into the bread bags & have a feast!

> I stumble from my bed scowling like a horror film monster and lurch to the door to let her out while she barks happily and nips my ankles.
