There is no 'here and now' here.

Posted by fayeroe on October 11, 2008, at 13:28:34

I have no "here" and no "now" > Increase in Wellbutrin doesn't see to be working and I guess I've run through my choice in meds. I feel just as tired and useless when morning comes as I did when I went to bed. Have not had interupted sleep in weeks.

Work is triple stress. I have been with the meanest female class for four weeks now and have most of them calm and productive but the price I'm paying is too much. I think that I have two more weeks with them. I am so tired of writing major cases on those women. And when I do write a case, that student is automatically on my radar and that is so tiring.

No here, no now..........Pat

The women were always the worst in my experience wow you have an important job at that place. Is it the wellbutrin or just too much stress at that place? Phillipa

There are times when the medications simply can't keep up with the stresses that the daily life puts on us :-( Wellbutrin was an odd one for me - considering that I was on it for over a year and a half, I can't say that I ever felt "right" on it. (But it took many more trials and finally a change in doctors to figure it all out.)

It sure does wear a body and soul down.

I'll repeat my favorite mantra to you, Pat, that I say to others, and when I'm being kind to the mirror, to myself: by extra gentle on yourself right now, while work is doing such a number on your resources. You're doing such good and difficult work with these women - wouldn't you - objectively - treat such an individual with an extra dose of love and respect? Like, maybe, that person might be a citizen hero, even?

Just my thots on this Sunday night.

Thank you, my dear. I am not taking very good care of myself right now. However, I have been taking naps when I get the chance.

So sorry Pat. It sounds like if you can drag yourself through the time until you're not with these particular women, it will not be quite as hard?

I hear that you're so tired. I hope you have the energy to do at least ONE nice thing for yourself after your very stressful day at work...a bubblebath? or dish of ice cream? or curling up with a book....whatever feels special or nurturing for you.

((((((((((((((((((((((you)))))))))))))))))))))))

love Kath

Thank you, Kath.

I've been on the female side for about a month and I think I have two more weeks. The women have calmed down and have raised their test scores. I had to teach on the male side yesterday as there was another substitute who is afraid of the offenders
there.

I'm trying.....:-)

Wow Pat - those people don't know how fortunate they are to have you!!!

Are you able to relax when you get home from work? I sure hope so. So 2 weeks to go. Do you find the male side a fair bit less stressful?

loving, nurturing hugs, Kath

The women have started cooperating more lately. I've written ome really strong cases and one went all the way to the warden. That always sends a strong message to the students..

I got a fantastic teacher's assistant and I hope that the regular teacher will keep her on. She'd be a fool not to.

The men are so good...Of course I know them now and they never act out. We have fun when I am on that side. One thanked me the other day for wearing perfume.."we never smell a fragrance and it means so much to us that you will wear perfume even though you are not supposed to".....(if we wear perfume..that could be a signal that we're after an offender) The women always pick up on the perfume and clothes. They beg for bright colors.

Gee - here I thought it was mostly stressful. It sounds as though it can be very rewarding also.

What do you teach? (if you want to say).

hugs, Kath

PS - glad - sounds like things are calming down a bit.

Kath, I generally teach Pre-GED classes or life skills. We had a fight this morning in my 6-9 class. First one that I've witnessed. One of the girls is a trouble maker and she started it.

The women really are working harder and their grades have gone up tremendously. I have a Spanish speaking woman and I found books that are in Spanish/English for her grammar and spelling. She scored 40 last week in spelling and 57 this week!

Yikes about the fight!!

That's wonderful about the Spanish woman. How rewarding & she must feel so proud! I hope she does anyway.
