Texans, stay safe!

Posted by Geegee on September 12, 2008, at 19:30:13

You're in my thoughts as Ike approaches. Stay safe and let us know you're okay when you can.

Take care,

gg

I'm in Austin so I'll be okay. They're thinking we'll get 50 mph wind gusts and maybe 6" of rain.
We have shelters here for coastal people.
For all the folks on the coast that decided to stay, it's time to meet your maker.

Still no power

No power at my house, too many downed trees.

My daughter can't get to her place yet. The island is closed until Wed.

Otherwise things are fine. I'm at work today so I finally have a couple of hours of internet....

You're sticking out living there with no power? That was one big reason we always evacuated. I don't believe a house is habitable if the A/C is off for any length of time. Do you have a generator? We're thinking of getting one, then still evacuating.

(((Mel)))

I'm really glad you're safe.

I HATE hurricanes.

Please keep in touch?

Hang in there, Mel. If there's anything you need that I can care-package out to you, please let me know.

Hoping your life gets back to "electrified" normal very soon.

The lights came on

Got my power back yesterday. We turned every light on in the house and lowered the ac to 73. Cable and internet came up at the same time. Just in time for the Survivor season...

It wasn't too bad. A friend took all my freezer stuff for safekeeping. The last few days I had a generator so we turned it on in the evening for lights. It was too noisy for all the time.

Luckily a cool front came in right after Ike and we had good weather for the first 4-5 days.

Now we need to get my daughter's place up and running. We got down on the island yesterday to clean out the (ugh!) fridge and fungicide the mold but it won't be livable for a while yet. Water is on for flushing, but you can't drink it and there isn't any power there yet.

One thing at a time.

Great mold-killer... » AuntieMel

What an ordeal!

Just in case it's of any use to you. A mold-killer par excellance is: Boric Acid (Borax).

It's a powder.

You mix it in water, put rubber gloves on as it's strong, wipe onto moldy surface; use an old toothbrush in hard to get at places. It has NO smell & works better than bleach. (we used to get mold in a few places over the winter...used to use a bleach solution each year, but after using borax, it's never come back).

So glad you've got your lights back.

luv, Kath
