Do people avoid me in chat?

Posted by Deneb on July 17, 2008, at 22:23:04

It seems like I wait in chat forever and no one comes to chat with me, but once others come in then a whole bunch of people come into chat.

I feel hurt.

Sometimes everyone leaves me alone in chat. Once a few key people leave, everyone leaves me.

Lately only Daveuk has been chatting with me.

I'm sad.

I wish people were happy to chat with me. I'm always happy to chat with people.

I wish people were happy to see me in chat. Often key people come in and everyone is really glad they came. People who said they were about to leave even stay.

Maybe I need to be unavailable so people will miss me?

Or maybe it's just because people don't want to chat with me as much as they do with other people.

I'm sad.

It's just, I don't have any close friends. It's really hard for me to make friends.

Babble friends are the closest friends I've got.

Now I realize maybe I'm not really friends with anyone.

Maybe I don't have friends.

I'm sad.

Nope. In fact, I wanted to join you earlier tonight because I was really really upset about something and wanted to talk about it. But you were in Room 1, and I only go to Room 2.

I always get the notion that people go to Room 1 because they don't want to talk to me. Since I'm the only person I'm aware of who currently chats, but only in Room 2. I think it's pretty natural human reaction to feel hurt and rejected. There's probably some evolutionary advantage attached.

I haven't been chatting as much lately. It probably started when people started chatting in Room 1. But now I've gotten out of the habit.

I suppose people do avoid each other.

(I have been avoiding everyone in chat for months.)

But take the Politics Board.

SometimesI feel I have single handedly emptied it.
Other times I think, 'O yes! Big deal!'

But it's not a nice feeling.

There is so much room for misunderstandings and errors of judgement to become important here.

OK I'm good now. I get sensitive sometimes and think people are avoiding me or something.

There are people in chat now! Yay! I'm happy.

Oh Deneb,
I'm glad some folks joined you. I somehow don't run into you that much lately because I've been so worn out at the end of the day :( I have to set strict time limits with myself (e.g. will stop chatting at 11:15 last night)

I echo the sentiment that I think you're very cool, especially with designer shoes !!!
