Anyone else dreading a lonely holiday?

Posted by Tabitha on July 2, 2008, at 1:34:27

I hate solitary 4th of July. Second only to Christmas. And I hate feeling sorry for myself for being alone on yet another holiday. Shouldn't I have this one licked by now?

I imagine if I complain someone will tell me to serve meals to the homeless, or gather up some other stragglers for my own party, or scrounge up and invitation, or something, which misses the point, which is that I WANT A HUMAN SOCIAL UNIT WHERE I ACTUALLY BELONG! not some patched up substitute that doesn't feel right.

End rant.

((((Tabitha))))

Do you mean a one on one social unit? Or a group of good friends?

I'm sorry you're feeling lonely. I don't consider it ranting to say so. But if it is, rant away.

Tabitha oh I know the feeling a little in reverse my husband has a close knit family which I always feel like an outcast in and have to drive five hours each way Friday to see them they don't want to see me and my own Family my kids don't even acknowledge I exist. So my lonliness is acute. And my rant is he can spend money for all that gas use my car and not take me to the pdoc anymore that is almost in the same place. So now not even a pdoc as I am charging everything as no money as he my husband has all my Disability cash and he owes me way over 3000 for merchandise from last summer for ebay. So already I see the boards are rather empty assuming everyone else is having fun and going or gone on vacation what's that? Love Phillipa

deliverance, of a sort. The not-quite-ex boyfriend invited me over for fireworks viewing. I'm fully prepared for the usual holiday-related emotional expectation crushing.

Maybe my dream of holiday belonging is false?

"belonging" hmmmm, well maybe there's a little Normal Rockwell in there, I guess it would just be the opposite of feeling like an outsider or a 5th wheel. Maybe I'd have to be a grandma or something and be surrounded by all my peeps.

Some people always feel like outsiders (whether they are or not).

Sometimes I yearn for that too, other times I wish I could just live in a cabin in the woods, you know, like Grizzly Adams or something. I think I might be happy with only animal companions.

I SO understand and agree; I sat in my house all day and night on the 4th. I could have gone with my daughter to her in-laws's house, but I would feel even more lonely and out of place.

Hugs
