Lassoed

Those questions felt a bit late 70s to me, meaning that I didn't know the anwers to any of them.
But I was intrigued by Wonderwoman's lasso of truth.

This is what I got from Wikipedia....

Wonder Woman's "lasso of truth" was forged from the Magic Girdle of Aphrodite, which Queen Hippolyte (Wonder Woman's mother) was granted by the Goddess. Hephaestus had borrowed the Olympian belt, removed several links from it in order to forge the magic lasso which was unbreakable as well as infinitely elastic, and compelled all encircled by it to obey the commands of the wielder, most notably to tell the truth.

In Wonder Woman's origin story, Steve Trevor, an intelligence officer in the United States Army, crashed his plane on Paradise Island, the Amazons' isolated homeland. Using a "Purple Ray," Princess Diana nursed him back to health, and fell in love with him. When the goddess Aphrodite declared that it was time for an Amazon to travel to "Man's World" and fight the evil of the Nazis, a tournament was held to determine who would be the Amazon champion. Although forbidden by her mother, Queen Hippolyte, to participate in the tournament, Princess Diana did so nevertheless, her identity hidden by a mask.

Ooo...this is fun! Let me try some, as I can't &!!&%$ sleep anyway! (I'll just delete the ones where I have no clue - and there are plenty)

> 1. What was the crying Indian commercial about?

errr....pollution? Water pollution PSA? something like that

> 4. Were you ever able to get a slinky to walk down stairs (alone or in pairs, making a slinkedy sound)?

Yes! But only the metal ones - the plastic ones broke and didn't work.

> 5. Did you ever have Shrinky Dinks?

Not me....but my daughter. My era is more "Creepy Crawlers"

> 6. Did you own (Girls) one of those Barbie heads you could put makeup on? (Guys) A Millenium Falcon?

well, you sexist, you! ;-) My *daughter* had some Star Wars toys...light saber, but no MF. So there!

And may I say a disembodied doll head is oh-so-creepy!

> 9. Who is Mikey and how did he 'supposedly' die?

Life cereal boy and I though he lived forever....darn :-(

> 10. Did you have a (Girls) Baby Alive? (Boys) An Indiana Jones whip?

No, but I do have to wonder, what's the alternative if a child doesn't have "Baby Alive?" See what I mean?!! This toy stuff is creeeepy, I tell you!

> 11. Did you love Indiana Jones (Boys and Girls)?

oh yeah, me and my daughter both...but now just me I think...pushing 70 is a bit much for my 25-year old daughter :-)

> 12. Do you remember The Hardy Boys?

Goodness yes. And Nancy Drew, and then they got together, which was cool....(not like *that*..I know what you people are thinking!)

> 13. Did you play Pick up Sticks, The Game of Life, or Chinese Checkers?

All of the above.

> 15. (Girls) did own a pair of Dr Scholls?

Several.

>19. What currently famous male actor got his start as a narc on 21 Jump Street (and complained about the fact bitterly)?

Mr. Johnny Depp - the ungrateful------ oops....never mind (he doesn't post here, does he?!!)

> 21. Do you remember when Michael Jackson was actually cool?

Yup. Thriller!!

> 22. What Is The First Thing That Comes To Mind When You Hear "Lamant you big dummy!"

The theme to "Sanford and Son?"

> 23. What TV show theme song started as, "Believe it or not, I'm walking on air"

Greatest American Hero! And I know all the rest of the words and the melody, too. I loved that show!

Yes, I AM a dork/geek/nerd and lovin' it!

> 24. Who is David Banner?

The Incredible Hulk....green rocks!
>
>
> 25. What did Wonder Woman's gold lasso do?

Dunno, but I'm afraid if she put it together with that Sleese--?? thing in your question above, it might be x-rated!! Dominatrix, anyone?

> 26. What famous Hispanic singer was once a member of the boy group Menudo?

Ricky Martin?

> 27. Do you still use the word "like" way more than necessary?

Nah. Never did, never will. But I do say "cool" and "awesome" waaay too often.

Hi TC - maybe I was in a submarine near the bottom of the ocean for alot of those years???

***I think I might have*****

> 21. Do you remember when Michael Jackson was actually cool?

******Yup & I remember Breakdancing & love it****

****Only, like, when I'm having tremendous, like, ya-know, fun talking like a, ya-know, like Valley Girl******

> Now after you answer these questions, add some of your own!

******what fun, TC....hmmm. OK - but I'm afraid I won't be able to add the Guys' part to the questions. Sorry guys.

Alot of these are going WAY back....WAYYYY back!

1. Do you remember pale, pale, orange (almost white) lipstick?

How about Maybelline cake mascara that you wet the brush (preferably with spit) & rubbed it on the cake & then applied it?

2. Did you ever have a hoola hoop?

3. Do you remember 'popette' plastic beads?

4. Were you around when "cats eye" marbles (or alleys, as we called them) were new & were absolutely to-die-for?

vanille, stawberry, chocolate - That was it.?

7. Do you remember saddle-shoes?

How about penny-loafers?

8. Remember when the #1 song was Purple People Eater?

How about Itsy Witsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini?

*****no but JEEZ that sounds like fun! When break dancing was 'around' I was a staid mother of a 9-yr old & 1-yr old & wasn't nearly as much fun as I am now!!! I'd LOVE to do that if I knew someone who knew how to break dance!
I do remember taking my 2 kids & 3 older kids(early-mid teens) to a Kids' Festival. We all had fun - the older teen had an 'eagle-eye' & by the end of the day had found $16 in change lying around (that was WEALTH then - about 22 years ago! Near the end of the day, there was a huge empty stage where the teens got up on & break danced - or is it "broke dance"???

:-) Good to see you here at Social obsidian!!!

You betcha -- mine was peach flavored, and I still think it looked good. (Went well with the baby's breath flowers in the hair, you know?)

>
> How about Maybelline cake mascara that you wet the brush (preferably with spit) & rubbed it on the cake & then applied it?

Maybe it's the OCD/Anorexia Nervosa stuff, but I *NEVER* would have used spit! Cake eyeliner is still the best, and I would love to track down some cake mascara. (Someone out there still makes it. I'm sure of it. And now I'll probably waste hours looking for it. {sigh} The Internet isn't always a boon for those of us with OCD...)

>
> 2. Did you ever have a hoola hoop?

Honey, I *still* have a hula hoop! It's here in the study with me right now. What my Dr Scholls sandals do for my legs, the hula hoop would do for my waist -- if I could ever keep it going anymore...

>
> 3. Do you remember 'popette' plastic beads?

Popper beads? Best fun you could have with your clothes on! (In fact, probably better fun than with your clothes off back then, too...)

>
> 4. Were you around when "cats eye" marbles (or alleys, as we called them) were new & were absolutely to-die-for?

I found my cats eye marbles in my mother's Treasure Box a few years back. I had a very special one, too, that was always my very, very favorite. I still look back on that one with fondness...

>
> 5. Do you remember not Kool-Aid - but a similar powdered drink called Freshie?

Oh, thank goodness! One I *don't* remember!

>

> vanille, stawberry, chocolate - That was it.?

No -- but my mother only ever took us to Baskin Robbins 31 Flavors, so that's not so surprising.

>
> 7. Do you remember saddle-shoes?

If we ever get to the same BabbleFest together, I'll be sure to wear my black and white Spalding saddle shoes, with the red rubber soles. They still fit. They're still amongst my very favorite shoes. I rarely wear them these days, but only because I don't know if I could get them resoled again, so I don't want to wear them out.

>
> How about penny-loafers?

You mean like the Bass Weejuns which hold pride of place in the Shoe Garden in my bedroom? I have both cordovan and black -- the cordovan have pennies in them, the black ones have dimes.

>
>
> 8. Remember when the #1 song was Purple People Eater?

Nope. And believe me, it's a relief. Especially since I still know all the words to "Billy Don't Be A Hero," "One Tin Soldier," and "The Night Chicago Died." (No wonder I never remember anything -- my memory is clogged with '70s pop song lyrics!)

>
> How about Itsy Witsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini?

"...and in the water is where she will stay..."

>
> Or Dead Skunk in the Middle of the Road?

Nope. I do remember "Beep Beep," though -- "...as he kept on tooting his horn -- I'll show him that a Cadillac is not a car to scorn!"

>
> 9. Watching Ed Sullivan & Bonanza as the hilight of the week?

Never much of a Bonanza fan, but I remember when "Gunsmoke" and "The Waltons" were never to be missed.

>
> This is fun TC, thanks. Kath
>

Sure -- it's fun for you, you get to expose the rest of us to the ridicule of the young'uns!

(And yes, I'm teasing. It is always fun for me to remember some of those Olden Days.)

(In fact, a serious story about the subject: I had to have an ultrasound of my belly a few years ago, and the tech asked what the scar was on my belly. I told her that it was from an exploratory laparotomy, after a car accident. The x-rays showed what looked like a ruptured spleen, so the doctors went in to find out what was going on. The tech was aghast! She was shaking her head, telling me, "No, they'd use an ultrasound or a CT scan to find out if your spleen was ruptured!" When I pointed out that this took place in 1969, she was still shocked -- couldn't believe such a benighted time could have existed so recently...)

Yes. My foot hurts just thinking about it.

OK, I don't have anything like the imagination you and Kath and others have, but how about cartoons?

1. Who had a Way Back Machine, and what did he use it for?

2. What manner of being was Kimba?

3. In "Bullwinkle," was were the full names of the two Enemy Agents/Bad Guys? (one of the "bad guys" was, of course, a woman.)

4. In the opening sequence of "George of the Jungle," what did that car drive through?

5. What was the name of Gumby's companion?

6. Name the automotive hero of the cartoon that was meant to compete against Scooby Doo? (The name of the character, as well as the name of the cartoon... I can't be more specific, without giving it away.)

7. Name the show named after a dessert?

8. Name three other characters who might have interacted with Witchy Poo?

You know what? I think my mother and I watched far too much television back then...

I was in college in the late 70s, but I can get some of these right.

Q1. What was the crying Indian commercial about?

A1. Pollution. Do I get a bonus point for having met the star of the commercial: Iron Eyes Cody?

Q4. Were you ever able to get a slinky to walk down stairs (alone or in pairs, making a slinkedy sound)?

A4. Never- carpeted or uncarpeted stairs.

Q5. Did you ever have Shrinky Dinks?

A5. I had incredible edibles. They tasted like fruit flavored plastic.

Q9. Who is Mikey and how did he 'supposedly' die?

A9. Mikey was the kid in the Life cereal commercials. I can't remember if his death rumor was eating poprocks or overdosing. I know he was too young to have not died in Vietnam.

Q12. Do you remember The Hardy Boys?

A12. TV show and books.

Q13. Did you play Pick up Sticks, The Game of Life, or Chinese Checkers?

A13. All three. I still have the Game of Life.

Q15. (Girls) did own a pair of Dr Scholls? (Boys) did you get a perm (like the Bradys)?

A15. Yes, and they hurt my feet. Everybody else could walk for hours and I felt like I had blocks of wood nailed to the bottoms of my feet.

Q17. Did you own one of those record players that fold up into a little suitcase type thing?

A17. Yup, the suitecase was pink and came with a doll with built in speaker in her stomach. I kid you not, her name was Serenade.

Q19. What currently famous male actor got his start as a narc on 21 Jump Street (and complained about the fact bitterly)?

A19. Johnny Depp, and had I known he was so hot I would have watched the show and not mocked it without ever seeing it.

Q21. Do you remember when Michael Jackson was actually cool?

A21. I liked him better during the 123 it's as easy as ABC days.

Q22. What Is The First Thing That Comes To Mind When You Hear "Lamant you big dummy!"

A22. "Elizabeth, I'm coming to join you."

Q23. What TV show theme song started as, "Believe it or not, I'm walking on air"

A23. The Greatest American Hero.

Q24. Who is David Banner?

A24. Belted by gamma rays turned into the Incredible Hulk.

Q26. What famous Hispanic singer was once a member of the boy group Menudo?

A26. Marc "Mr. J Lo" Antony.

Q27. Do you still use the word "like" way more than necessary?

A27. Like, I don't know what you're, like, getting at.

Metal lunchbox...oh yeah. Mine was Starsky and Hutch

I owned Simon and Merlin. Anyone remember Merlin??

I have stepped on lego in barefeet but what was more painful was kneeling on a lego right in the crease where my kneecap joins with my tibia. I still have twinges of pain from that episode.

I just got back here and had totally forgotten I even posted this here! They are always posting these types of things on myspace, but they are always for people at LEAST a decade younger than I am, so I thought I would make up one of my own. I did it all right off the top of my head too. I was worried the boy, girl questions would sound sexist, but I didn't want it to be a completely girl thing, so I threw in some things I remember my brother having. Anyway, here are my answers:

1. What was the crying Indian commercial about?
He looked out over the land that used to be his people's, and it was covered with litter. And a single tear rolled down his face. I remember being SO SO UPSET about this commercial. I was somewhere under the age of 5, and I guess my 'high sensitivity' was already a part of me then.

2. What was the beginning phrase the chick yelled out on Electric Company?
HEY YOU GUYSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!

3. Place the line, "Cletus you dipstick!"
Roscoe B Coltrane, Dukes of Hazzard.

4. Were you ever able to get a slinky to walk down stairs (alone or in pairs, making a slinkedy sound)?
I swear these things would not walk down stairs and this was only a gimmick.

5. Did you ever have Shrinky Dinks?
Yes

6. Did you own (Girls) one of those Barbie heads you could put makeup on? (Guys) A Millenium Falcon?
I had one of those barbie heads, you could put makeup on her and fix her hair. My brother had all kinds of Star Wars stuff, which, much to his dismay, my Mom gave away after he was an adult. They would be worth so much money now!!!

7. Do you remember why the Dungeons and Dragons cartoon got taken of the air? (or at least the rumor that went around).
I wasn't really into D&D, but the short lived cartoon was pretty cool. There was an episode where this sorcerer was quoting Revelations and people freaked out because they thought it was satanic, then it was taken off the air.

8. Complete this phrase: Up your nose with a rubber hose...
Twice as far with a chocolate bar

9. Who is Mikey and how did he 'supposedly' die?
The urban legend was that he (the life cereal kid) choked to death while eating pop rocks and drinking a coke. It wasn't true.

10. Did you have a (Girls) Baby Alive? (Boys) An Indiana Jones whip?
You could feed Baby Alive food and it would come out in its diaper. In retrospect it was pretty gross. My brother was obsessed with Indiana Jones and had a hat and whip so he could pretend he was him.

11. Did you love Indiana Jones (Boys and Girls)?
I loved him, and Han Solo too.

12. Do you remember The Hardy Boys?
Parker Stevensen and Shaun Cassidy. My Mom and friends mom took us to see Shaun Cassidy in concert, I was about 11. We did nothing but scream the entire time. Ours mothers just laughed their *ss*s off at us.

13. Did you play Pick up Sticks, The Game of Life, or Chinese Checkers?
These are games I remember playing all the time with my brother.

14. What is the response to, "How much farther Papa Smurf"?
"Not far now!" They did this on several episodes.

On a side note, I recently saw a Family Guy episode that showed the Smurfs talking all dirty, but they replaced everything with the word 'smurf'; "Man, I smurfed the smurf out of Smurfette last night!" "No smurf??? Are you smurfing me???" Family Guy is great for references from my generations. But very risque, so watch at your own risk.

15. (Girls) did own a pair of Dr Scholls? (Boys) did you get a perm (like the Bradys)?
I had those hard wooden Dr. Scholls, and wooden clogs. I remember the older guys all having perms.

16. Did you ever have feathered hair, AND carry a comb in your back pocket (so that you could constantly re-feather it).
I remember this so clearly!

17. Did you own one of those record players that fold up into a little suitcase type thing?
We listened to this all the time! I remember having the 45's that you had to put the round yellow thing on for. We had Disco Duck, Yackity Yack, Alone Came Jones, Hey Jude, Cecilia, an album of Edgar Allan Poe stories, and an album of Disney songs.

18. What song does the line "and the chicken taste like wood" come from?
Sugar Hill Gang, Rappers Delite.

19. What currently famous male actor got his start as a narc on 21 Jump Street (and complained about the fact bitterly)?
You all got this, Johnny Dept. He was also on the first Nightmare on Elm Street Movie.

20. What is a Sleestack?
Land of the Lost creature. I remember being SOOOOO fascinated by this show!

21. Do you remember when Michael Jackson was actually cool?
Everybody still loved him when Thriller came out.

22. What Is The First Thing That Comes To Mind When You Hear "Lamant you big dummy!"
You all got this one too, Sanford and Son.

23. What TV show theme song started as, "Believe it or not, I'm walking on air"
The Greatest American Hero. I remember nothing but the song and that the guy had curly blonde hair.

24. Who is David Banner?
You all got this one too, the Incredible Hulks alter ego.

25. What did Wonder Woman's gold lasso do?
Make people tell the truth. I LOVED Wonder Woman! That was one of the very first TV shows that showed a woman who kicked *ss!!!

26. What famous Hispanic singer was once a member of the boy group Menudo?
You all got this too. I remember me and all my friends had one guy picked as our favorite. Mine was always Rickie Martin!

27. Do you still use the word "like" way more than necessary?
To an embarrassing extent. That and 'totally'.

> 1) At any time in your life did you own a metal lunchbox, and if so, what was on it?
Josie and the Pussycats.

> 2) Did you own the game "simon"?
Yes

> 3) Have you ever stepped on a lego in bare feet?

No, but I remember what Playdo tastes like.

Here's some more (its yes to all of these for me):

Did you own those big fat flavored lip gloss things called Lip Smackers?

Did you wear Loves Baby Soft, and/or Jean Nate?

Did you ever wear your hair like Chrissy Snow?

Do you remember the episode of Barney Miller where someone left the police officers some 'special' brownies, which they all ate.

Did your entire family gather together to watch Roots?
