Hi everyone.. its been quite awhile since I've posted here but I do still read semi-often. I hope you all dont mind me jumping back in in this way, but.. I'd like to ask for some prayers/happy thoughts/whatever you can send for my younger brother. He's 17 years old and lives with my parents about two hours away from me. He was admitted to the hospital today and promptly moved into the ICU. He was diagnosed with mono a week or so ago and I guess has gotten progressively worse. He's in a lot of pain and I guess not sleeping or eating well. They said something about his throat being very swollen and theyre afraid it could mess with his breathing. For now, I think he's okay (aside from in pain) but I'm worried. Last I heard they think it may be just a virus on top of the mono, but my mother, who gave me this information, isnt necessairly the most reliable when it comes to how serious something is, etc. Anyway, I'm worried and I just would like some positive vibes sent his way for a quick recovery. I'll put your brothers into my prayers tonight. It's scary when someone we love is in ICU. Hopefully he just needs time to rest and recover to fight this virus (and good doctoring).

thanks everyone. Amazingly enough, he has recovered very quickly and may even be out of the hospital by tomorrow. He was moved out of Intensive Care tonight and into a regular room. Turns out he has/had a severe infection in the flap of skin that covers your esophagus, causing severe pain, trouble breathing, etc. They have him on a constant IV drip of steroids and he was just taken off morphine this afternoon. He is stable now. I'm not very close to my family at all but I've been incredibly worried and feeling very sensitive and emotional recently as a result. Thanks everyone for caring.

Well, he wasnt released today. He started going downhill last night and is now just as sick as when he was admitted again. Apparently the infection has moved into his blood and they havent yet been able to find an antibiotic that is going to work. He's still on the regular floor and no talk of going back to ICU yet, but who knows for how long.
Just wait and see, I guess...

I'm thinking of you and your brother. Sounds like your brother is very sick and still needs medical care. I hope they stabilize him soon.
