Bartok Hungarian Sketches

Posted by LlurpsieNoodle on June 24, 2007, at 16:49:29

Isn't this a lovely suite?

I'm just about saturated on Mozart violin concertos. Seems like my iPOD is picking my shuffle at very non-random intervals. I hate it when that happens.

Like the time when I was depressed and 3 mvmts of Mozart's Requiem were selected in 30 minutes. Mind you this is "random" selection from over 23 days worth of music. 60gB.

p.s. who are the classical music fans here? Anyone want to become one? I can recommend a few started CD's or tracks if you tell me what kind of tune you'd like to hear (mysterious, joyful, sorrowful, playful, obscure, meditative, sweeping, intricate, small, grand, with certain instruments, with choirs or vocals) This is the only music I know, and I'd love to share it. Most people "like" classical music, but find it intimidating. There's nothing wrong with liking Pachelbel's canon, and the great thing is that there's more like that, ready for your ears to sink into

p.p.s. I haven't gotten a babble email in about 18 hours. shocked. just say hi, and congratulations to making it to the end of this babblepost.

I absolutely love classical music. I somehow feel that modern musicians just don't quite match up to classical composers. Name one living musician who can compare to somebody like Beethoven.

My favourite composers are Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt, Rachmaninoff. I especially like piano music. My favourite pianist is Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli.

I don't know what's wrong with me right now, but I feel like I don't exist... Like nothing around me is real...

I confess to being so slack I have not got round to getting hold of Richard Strauss's...... what was it Lurps? Richard Strauus's double concerto for something or other. I must listen to more classical music before my hearing goes. I like all sorts of stuff from the ultraromantic and easy enough Schubert Symphony #3, actually anything by Schubert. I have The Well Tempered Clavier played by Sviatoslav Richter in my car (what a name and he played at Stalin's funeral) which I listen to for a couple of months and then stop. Now that you mention Bartok, I think Solzhenityn's son was on a music program and he chose some Bartok, perhaps from Bluebeards Castle, if that's what it was called, and I was surprised by how wonderful it was.

Nothing is real, Klavot? You remember this?....

Let me take you down, 'cos I'm going to Strawberry Fields
Nothing is real, and nothing to get hungabout
Strawberry Fields forever

Living is easy with eyes closed, misunderstanding all you see
It's getting hard to be someone but it all works out, it doesn't matter much to me
Let me take you down, 'cos I'm going to Strawberry Fields
Nothing is real, and nothing to get hungabout
Strawberry Fields forever

No one I think is in my tree, I mean it must be high or low
That is you can't you know tune in but it's all right, that is I think it's not too bad

Let me take you down, 'cos I'm going to Strawberry Fields
Nothing is real, and nothing to get hungabout
Strawberry Fields forever

Always, no sometimes, think it's me, but you know I know when it's a dream
I think I know I mean a "Yes" but it's all wrong, that is I think I disagree

Let me take you down, 'cos I'm going to Strawberry Fields
Nothing is real, and nothing to get hungabout
Strawberry Fields forever
Strawberry Fields forever
Strawberry Fields forever

Well you know I love classical music! But the Hummel Trumpet Concerto can bite me! I am so sick of listening to all the experts play it while I clanker it out trying to sound like they do. But a friend of mine said once to not to try to sound like somebody else, but to sound how they make you feel when you listen to them. Wise old man I know.
But I don't want to practice anymore, haven't in weeks, just don't feel like it. I am tired of a lot of people pressuring me to do it. I will do it when I want to, dang it. Even my T can bite me too! I will practice when I want to and exercise when I want to, so there, bossy T!!!!!!!!! Why do people give a flicking care on what I do? I am tired of people being on my *ss.

But I love practicing the guitar, I learned my first blues song, and love it , love it, love it. My fingers are remembering where to go when I see the notes, this is good. I am probably 4 weeks ahead of my lesson, but why not go on in the book if I perfected my assignments? I improve everytime I practice. I wish it was that way for the trumpet. Guitar is so much more relaxing, you don't have to do breathing olympics to play. Don't know what to do, I think guitar is taking over the trumpet. I know such problems, right? Blah, blah, blah, sorry to bore ya. Sometimes life is a sh*t sandwich, and I am sick of it being the only thing on the menu.

I really like Einaudi:

Particulary Divenire.

Plus Sibelius of course. Well, it would be rude not to, huh?

Brahms, Mahler, Beethoven, Schuman, Bach, Rachmaninoff, Prokofiev, Debussy, Satie, Mozart, Elgar.

passion precision romance

chorale work, orchestral, chamber, piano

I don't particularly care for late 20th century composers or too much sonic dissonance. Or enormous pipe organs.

I am a classical music fan. I play the piano. I especially like chopin, bach, and mozart.

I am currently listening through most of bach's works listed on www.clasicalarchives.com. This is a site devoted to midi renderings of classical works.

My all time favorite piece is chopin's Tristesse study.

I especially love mysterious and sorrowful with or without choirs. I want to be moved to tears.

Any good pieces you can recommend?

Obsid,
"bach classical guitar"

try listening to a few of these?

I LOVE classical guitar! (don't ever apologize for liking pachelbel's canon. It must be good to still be popular after 300odd years

AgnusDei/Barber's Adagio for Strings » Worry Girl

Hi WorryGirl,

You might like a piece by Samuel Barber called "Adagio for Strings". The melody comes from a string quartet, and has also been reworked for an entire string section and an a capella choir. This piece might sound familiar because it has been used in several movies, most famously Platoon.

"Agnus Dei Barber"

lemme know what you think!
