Does anyone know how to get rid of bunnies?

Posted by Happyflower on May 31, 2007, at 12:53:09

There are at least 3 baby bunnies, and yes they are cute, but they are using my flowers as their meals. I live in town too. Any humane ways? I know you can use redpepper flakes to keep squirrels away from bird food. I wonder if you can use a hot pepper spray to keep the bunnies away. They are cute, they are so tiny, like a guniea pig. But they gotta go!

Little fences may be the way to go. I couldn't bear thinking of the alternative...

I use blood meal on the soil around the plants they like to munch. It works reasonably well, but my dog goes crazy for it, and I have to keep her on the leash in the backyard to keep her from eating it and the dirt.

I think I've tried hot pepper spray, too. It also works reasonably well. Nothing works forever, so rotating stuff is important. I've even used ground red pepper, but that has to be reapplied whenever it rains and fairly often as a whole. Still, if you get the industrial sized jar and make a habit of bringing it with you when you are wandering by, it can work.

The other day a ginormous rabbit was sitting in the patch of black-eyed susans just munching away. I wanted to say, "Go for it! Those are such prolific self-seeders that they can always use thinning." But I don't speak rabbit. Just scooby. ;)

Good luck.

I will buy some bloodmeal tomorrow and try it. They are very hungry buggers. Why can't they get the neighbors overgrown grass?

Hi!
I admit, I'm an animal lover and I am a bit oversensitive about any animal issue...
that's why I find comments like "rabbits should be destroyed/killed", etc, a bit cruel.

Rabbits can make great pets, as well as guinea pigs. I have. :-)

To Happyflower:
I hope you find the way to make them go away without having to do anything else. The only thing that comes to my mind is to put a fence, or to take the rabbits to an animal shelter where they can be taken care of. Or call an animal shelter. There are some for guinea pigs, rabbits, and other small animals.

Please do not eat another's garden or harass the Hflower.

Please grow up and hop away to a vast meadow, far from town. Carrot sticks can be a civil way to express one's hunger, for instance.

This doesn't mean that I don't like you or think that you are a bad bunny.

For help in a crisis please call your local PETA.

Some bunnies is okay surely?

One of my all time favourite movies of all time features a 6' 3 1/2" bunny named Harvey. He'd not hurt nobody never - nor eat your begetables and stuff.

I've heard that human hair works the best, the scent deters them so if you have hair clippings that's what to do.

practically everything eats bunnies.
Dogs , cats, crows, foxes, coyotes, c*ons, hawks, humans, bears, badgers, etc etc etc etc etc .
Bunnies breed prolifically.
For a reason.
They are food.
Cute food.
But food.
I don't eat bunny.
But I do eat meat.
So there's nothing I can say.

I'm sorry if you were offended by my posts. I obviously was not serious when describing bunnies as "evil" etc. I really am not a cruel person.

Its so easy to misunderstand the written word when there's no tone of voice or facial expression to go with it, but things can be resolved if we try to keep an open mind.
