Son now happily doing patio work/my POTTERY SALE

Posted by Kath on May 9, 2007, at 20:45:27

Hi all,

Here's a copy of an email I sent to a friend a coupla days ago. Just to let my 'supporters' know how it's going:

I picked him up at the hospital Monday & told him his friend had said he could start working the next day. (He worked 2 summers ago with this fellow doing interlock patio stone work & this current job is flagstone.) He phoned said friend immediately & said he'd like to start right away & had a ride, so down we went to the nearby town.

He is VERY happy to be working. Since he returned from BC he knew that he'd have work with 'R' as soon as the weather was good enough.

He said that he won't be doing drugs during the work week!!
AND that it would work better if he got paid each week instead of every 2 weeks because he wouldn't be able to buy as many drugs at one time. (???? jeez!! scrathes her head!)

Anyway, I told him that it was nice encountering his personality...that I liked his personality & hadn't really encountered if for several weeks & I was glad it had been able to come back. I could tell by his reaction that he knew what I meant!
He actually met a girl in the hospital. She'd been in an abusive relationship for 5 years. She was released yesterday & my son went & visited last night at her house & they plan to see each other tonight for a bit. She lives about 15 minutes away & has the use of her Mom's car. Hubby & I met her & she seems really nice. Upbeat, friendly, etc. I asked son if he thought she might be 'girlfriend material' & he said that yeah, he thought she might be & that he can tell she's interested in him. This is very good for his self esteem after his girlfriend dumping him. I know he'd wondered if anyone else would be interested in him. Over the years he's had trouble finding a girlfriend.

So today was his 4th day working & he really seems to be more 'back to himself'. My husband is encouraging me to view the whole thing as a 'process' in which, hopefully our son will improve, and hopefully one day go to rehab. In the mean time, hopefully he'll be able to do drugs ONLY on the weekend. I told him that the summer will give him a pretty good idea at "how he's doing" if he can keep to only on weekends.

(I actually think he's an idiot to do drugs at ALL, but whatever...I'm trying to remind myself that I 'gave him life' & now it's HIS to do what he wants with!!!!!!!

The good things are:

He's loving working & is totally committed to it.

He's met a nice girl he can spend time with & that's pleasant for him & great for his self-esteem.

He's planning to limit his drug use to weekends.

Those are really good things compared to where he's been over the past several weeks.

The other marvellous thing is that from about the 4th day in the hospital, his personality has returned & he's pretty-well 'himself'. It feels like nothing short of a miracle.

Lots to be thankful for.

AND - today was 'set up' day for my pottery sale for the Pottery Guild I'm a member of "Pine Tree Potters' Guild".

For the first time EVER, I wasn't a nervous wreck. It used to be that I was totally stressed out for at least a week before. Then, I was a nervous wreck for at least the day or two before set-up AND on setup day. Well, this time, I haven't been all stressed out!!!and I was relaxed today setting up. Mind you, numerous times over the past few weeks I've wondered if I would actually go in it or not. I'll try to take a photo of my 'table' & post it.

I always LOVE the sale (Thur, Fri, Sat) while it's running. There are about 20 potters in it this time. I have half a table, sharing with another potter; we each have 1 end.

The weather is nice now & lots of flowers coming out & FINALLY the leaves are really looking like they actually WILL open up fully!

I'm battling a throat infection (viral) which isn't too sore, but is sorta pulling me down energy-wise.

Sorry I haven't been around for some days.

:-) Kath

Okee dokee.

I'll put my camera out right now so's I don't forget.

Yeah, I'm glad & so thankful things are going better. It seems like the girl is more friend material than GF material, but that's perfectly OK. My son didn't give any details. He's feeling pretty sick today; probably has whatever my husband & I have. Some throat virus or something.

As of yesterday at 5 pm I had sold 4 items. Sales are down this year compared to last Spring Sale. The Spring sale is always slower than the November (pre-Christmas one). So under those circumstances 4 yesterday is FINE. We have a few potters who belong to the guild who sell TONS of stuff & they were selling way fewer things yesterday. I was on duty yesterday from 1 - 5 & didn't go in today, so I don't know what happened today. My friend was on duty & I left a message for her to phone me so I can ask her.

Some of my 'Raku' wall plaques are quite unique & I love them so much that I put big prices on them - couldn't bear (sp? bare?) to part with them unless I got lots of moolah - so they're priced at $200!!! most of them. One year I sold one that wasn't quite so stunning for $60 & THAT felt pretty exciting!!

I make teenie doll-house type miniatures also. I'll see if I can get a photo that shows th size of them.

Do you show your photography?

hugs, Kath
