Tide Free liquid. (Do they still make powders?) Augmented with borax powder.

I have another question. Am I the only one who has to run my clothes through a few times because I totally forgot I put them in the washer? Until my dear husband sighs and puts everything in the dryer after running the washer one more time?

Tide Free liquid in the biggest, heaviest bottle.
No fabric softeners; I use these blue rubber balls in the dryer that knock the static out of the clothes (sounds scientific to me!) and makes them soft.

Okay, Tide Free , it turns out, in a hideous orange container with a lime green top.

I never run it without the clothes-- but it's not unheard of for me to bring the clothes in and leave them in a basket on the kitchen floor, or to throw them in and forget to wash them for several days Or, even worse, to wash them and forget to put them into the drier. Luckily, washing clothes isn't my job particularly. Although it's so easy, I'm not sure why I don't do it more often.

Ecover!

Well actually here in Finland I use Erisan a similar sort of thing. I hardly use any. And definately no fabric conditioner!! These things are evil.

So you folks (from the sound of things) all use driers?????

Can I remind you just how much electricity they use?

Whats wrong with drying them without a drier??

I hate driers (with a passion as you might have noticed).

Clothes not dried in a drier seem so stiff to me. They scratch. I even toss my nondryables back in the dryer to soften them up. And I don't even use softener.

I hate to say this for fear of jinxing myself, but for some reason static isn't a major problem at our house.

How could you get by in England without a drier??? I dry my clothes outside when it's fine, but you know what the weather's like here. Drying them inside on the radiators makes the house damp and smelly. Looks untidy too.

Well actually, I dry them inside on a clothes horse drier thing. Its always prefectly heated here to a cosy 22˚C -- the buildings here are insultated really well, and I have TRIPLE glazing. So its always very warm and dry inside. So we don't even need to dry it outside. But I guess you can do in the summer.

But yeah, my mother hated really hated drying clothes on the raditors - I was totally forbidden from doing it. But then, the UK climate is pretty damp, and the houses are basically crap when it somes to heat insultion and dampness.

I still dry stuff though in the UK without the luxuary of a drier, I always have done. You just been to wait about three days before its ready!!

You probably live in a damp climate Dinah. The moisture in the air will carry the static charge and dissipate it nicely so it doesn't build up. I think anyway.

Thats why when its -20C here, and everything totally totally freezes, you get alot of static - there's like no moisture in the air because its sooo cold.

Kind regards

Meri
