Spending too much time vegging/can we post pics?

Posted by Kath on February 20, 2007, at 15:42:22

I think I've spent hours on the computer today, or basically getting nothing productive accomplished.

I do that sometimes & then end up feeling like I've wasted my whole day.

Had an appointment with son's case manager this morning. She came to my house...isn't that cool? She is quite fine with doing that!

It is SO dull today. No sun & even though I have 6 lovely orchid plants blooming (2 new, the rest re-blooming, all different colours) which should cheer me up, I am NOT cheered up.

Is there a place on here where we can post photos? Thought I might try posting some - maybe pictures of my orchids to begin with.

Kath

It's okay Kath. All I'm seeing is the screen where you are asked for your password. Unless they know your password, nobody can see what was uploaded to the site. Do you know how to delete all the personal info?

Thanks for your quick reply!!!!!!! I had Phillipa helping me also!!! Jeez.

I went in & made it Private so that's probably what blocks access.

I "unsubscribed" or whatever! Sent them an email explaining!

Yikes - and here I thought I was doing well at being "computer-literate" LOL Oh My Goodness!

It seems a great product, but I don't know how all that stuff got on there! Like a copy of the list of contents in my file on my computer!!

Whew!! thx Q and Phillipa Kath

I'm itching to see your pics! It's 9.15am here, so I guess you're snoozing in your beds still.
I too could only get the login info when I clicked on the link.

Hopefully you've had a good night sleep.

I couldn't get it to work. I freaked out because when you clicked on Browse, all the titles of my files in my file folder showed.

Even if I go in now, I can't 'see' any photos. And now I'm afraid to try to set up photos because of what happened!!

:-(( Here I had posted photos of my lovely orchids!!

And one of a Fox snake from my Kathryn's Week Away camping week in June. I had patted this snake while it was asleep after I took it's photo!!!

How about you set up a Bebo like mine?
You go on Bebo.com and register, then click on upload photos. I scanned my pictures, then I think my daughter saved them in a file, then pasted them on to Bebo. I can ask her later for more details on how she did this if you like?

I think you misunderstand how the process works. Nobody can see anything on your computer. There has been no compromise of your privacy.

The website you were visiting sent an image of the download page to your computer. Within the page, there was a small piece of code that made it easier for you to do a search of your own directories, to find the pictures you might want to consider for uploading to the site. This browse feature all happens within your own computer environment. Nobody could see this unless they were looking over your shoulder.

The browse function allows you to specify the pathname for the picture file without having to type it in. This makes the risk of typing mistakes zero. Computers are too literal to figure out what you thought you meant, so the only way it's going to know which picture file you really meant is from the path definition. The receiving computer (i.e. the website where the picture file will end up) only ever sees the filename, such as kath_snake.jpg. Not the C:\Documents and Settings\Username\My Pictures\blah blah blah..... part.

It's a secure procedure. Nothing to worry about, unless the picture files are named in such a way as to give out too much information. You can always rename the file before uploading it, if there's any concern at all.

Thx Larry. I wondered if that was what had happened & when I 'went in' from a couple of different email addresses & it was still there, I didn't realize that it was this computer that was linking up, therefore that stuff was visible to ME 'cuz I'm at this computer!!! Thanks for explaining it!

Meanwhile I did go to Bebo, Jo, and put some photos on for folks to look at.

I only could put one orchid one, the others were too large of files. I'm disappointed about that, because the prettiest orchids aren't there. The Bebo site said that a digital camera can make the photos take up less space, but that's getting way too complicated for moi!!

Anyway, as far as I know this is the link for my photos:

http://kattgoddess.bebo.com

See what you think. The one of my husband & I is a bit blurry, but I wanted to show the pretty forest around us.

Killbear Park is just lovely. It's where I go in June for Kathryn's Week Away!!

Harold's Rock doesn't look like huge high cliffs on the photo, because it's taken from quite far away. The cliffs are about 3 stories high or more. There's one area about half-way out to the end of the point, which people call "the jumping rocks"....you can jump into the water below from numerous points, which are named - from lease scarey & high: Elephant Hump,
Diamond Back, Crow's Nest, Eagle's Nest & Suicide (although it could be aptly named, it should be named "Jump from Here if you are a Maniac or Exceedingly Stupid).

Hugs, Kath

Kath your pictures are fab, love the landscape. Are there bears near that campsite then? Not sure I could do the camping thing, I like being outside, but I need four solid walls around me to sleep!

Quintal, your Smudge looks like a deep thinker!
Where abouts are you - it looks like England, not disimilar to the forest near here.

He is. I often catch him staring off into space while meditating in his basket, nodding sagely every so oft with his big brown eyes at the occasional thought flitting through his mind.

>Where abouts are you - it looks like England, not disimilar to the forest near here.

Yes, I live in the North East, not far from Darlington/Durham, whichever you know better.

Sadly I've never been further than Birmingham, and that was a visit to the NEC so I cant even say I know what Brummy looks like! There is so much of England that I'd like to see. My sister in law has lived in Edinburgh for 3 years and we still havnt managed to get up there, though I'd love to.
Have you always lived in the North East?

Q - they're lovely!!!!!

Some reminded me of a farm I stayed at decades ago while I lived briefly in England.

The farm was North, near Armathwaite. I'm surprised I remembered after all these years, but I did have an ENORMOUS crush on the son. He was the nephew of my neighbour back in Canada. It was a very sweet 'love affair' very innocent & childlike! When his Mom & he drove me to the train to leave I was so sad & was so "blown away" when he rushed onto the train & kissed me good bye!!!! ****sigh****

Youth!

Great photos! Kath
