Li's gonna have a social event

Posted by Lindenblüte on October 12, 2006, at 12:01:10

My girlfriends are coming over this evening. I'm cooking them dinner (I like playing hostess and cooking something cool- just not for myself!).

They are going to bring a bottle of wine each. Li has explained that she cannot partake of wine (because she's the Princess of Polypharmacy).

Instead, I'm going to get a bottle of seltzer and a bottle of pomegranate juice (a super splurge!) and a lime, and make mocktail for myself- in the shaker, with ice, and poured into a pretty glass. oh wait- no shaker with seltzer- bad idea!. Maybe I will buy a bottle of sparkling white grape juice if it looks yummy. The main thing is that I need to celebrate finishing my analysis of 9000 hours of videotape data for the dissertation project.

Then we will watch Grey's Anatomy. The girlfriends will be getting sillier and sillier, and at some point dessert will be served.

Can you think of a better excuse to vacuum my living and dining rooms?

I'm actually looking forward to something :) kind of tentative- 'cause I'm not sure whether I'm going to feel so ambitious later in the afternoon, but hey- anticipation is pretty rare for me these days, even if it is a single very fragile Lindenblossom

Have a great evening, Li!

I've always found inviting guests over is the best motivator to get the house cleaned. Hmm, do you think if I invited people to come over to clean for me, it would work just as well? ;)

Take care of you and the little blossom.

Laurie

I hope you're having a good time right now. What was dessert?

the morning after

It was fun, and I did have enough energy. I ended up making Russian food, which is just the thing for a chilly fall evening. Meat filled dumplings with sour cream sauce, and a mixed vegetable salad with beets and peas and carrots and all kinds of other stuff. It was surprisingly tasty. I was a little afraid that my friends might not like it, but we chowed down, and I still have some leftovers for tonight.

The girls brought dessert. 3 small pastries, and we shared them. One was a chocolate mousse concoction with somekind of fudgy cake as the base. The other was a sponge cake filled with cappucinno mouse. The last pastry was a tartlet with custard and mixed berries on top. Very satisfying.

My mocktail was quite delicious, although I was sad not to be able to partake in the wine offerings that the girls brought. On the other hand, I'm certain that I feel much better this morning than they do! Plus, pomegranate juice has a lot of antioxidants :)

My place got cleaned but not vaccuumed. There is one load of dishes to be done, and my computer desk is pretty sloppy.

The episode of Grey's Anatomy was a really good one, huh? spicy! dramatic! funny! and plenty of eye candy to go around.

And we gossiped afterwards for a couple hours about life and sex and politics and annoying/funny people.

thanks for thinking of me, you guys :)

It sounds like you had a great evening. Did you cook all the food yourself or have some help? (Like already prepared food?) I had my yoga teacher - new friend, now - over this week, and it was fun. I liked cooking for us, and we talked for hours.

Um, I still haven't cleaned up the mess. at least all the dishes and such are n the kitchen. yikes!

I made the dumpling filling myself, and bought pot-sticker pastry wrappers, because the rolling of the dough would have been a pain!

My salad had canned beets, and frozen peas and carrots, so it was really easy to put together, just slice some scallions, slice some sweet pickles, slice a cucumber use a squirt of mayo, some olive oil, some salt, pepper, vinegar, and chill for a bit.

i like cooking together, but I'm much more confident and competent in the kitchen than my friends are, so I get frustrated with them. My husband and I are great at "tag-team" cooking. We work really well in the kitchen together, especially since I convinced him that he CAN cut garlic and onions all by himself. I don't like having to take on the role of garlic and onion sous-chef for the rest of my marriage. We have lots of fun in the kitchen :)
