I think I'm stressed out

Posted by Deneb on September 30, 2006, at 1:44:34

I should be studying right now even though it is the middle of the night because I don't know all my material yet. I don't feel like studying. I don't think I can study anymore. Feel bad about this.

((((((((Babblers)))))))))))

I seek comfort. I think I'm stressed out right now. I should exercise more, I think it helps with stress.

My pdoc encouraged me to go for a brisk walk for at least 30 mins everyday. I haven't been doing that. I should start. I even bought a pedometer to keep track of the number of steps I take.

I should go to bed.

I need to exercise too Deneb ... used to run, but now can only fast-walk, but that would B OK.

Wouldn't it be nice to have a treadmill. I wonder if anyone here has a treadmill and could share how much it cost them.

The exercise would help our stress ... me2 stressed out big time. An IRL issue is out of control. I like things to be controllable.

I 'think' about going to the Dysfunction Junction multigeneratio*al ctr where there is exercise equipment and I guess a park, so prob' jogging type path/area. BUT, I don't go.

I wish we could go together. I think that's why I don't go. I don't like to go alone. Other people go alone and seem fine. I dunno'.

I hope U can study this weekend.

I'll let ya' know if I get 'the never up' to go exercise. Oh, and, do we have to wear 'cool exercise attire', of course not, but I'd like to.

love, cf

Deneb,
I try to do the brisk walking as part of some other activity. For instance, on the way to school, I will usually get in at least a mile. Sure, I could find a route that is less strenuous, but I reserve that option for days when there is a foot of snow on the ground or a lightning storm or something.

Another option is to try to take stairs, rather than the elevator.

Or to do your shopping on foot, walking from store to store, even though many people might drive or take the bus.

Do you have any exercise buddies?

Also- if you're stressed out, try changing your routine a bit. Having problems studying at home, or in the library? Try a change of scene- go to a cafe, or a new library. Stay in one of your classrooms after class is over and get in 20 minutes there.

And sometimes it's okay to treat yourself. You had a hard week- why not go out with your friends on Friday evening? My friends and I now have a ritual where everyone comes over to my place and we watch our favorite TV show. It's only one night a week, but it really motivates me to pick up my living room, and I know that we'll be eating dinner, so I won't have cereal for dinner every night :)

My T recommended me to avoid the news. This has helped TREMENDOUSLY. I used to have the OCD habit of clicking on CNN.com, because it was an automatic button on my address bar. now it's not so automatic, becuase i removed the button. (I still have "Bob" there, though ;)

Are you reading a book? maybe try to limit psycho-babble time (I have to set a timer so I don't stay on past my bedtime) and read a book for the rest of the evening. NOT a study book. A nice book :)

your friend,
Li
