Is it true a big sun burn will dry up a zit?

Posted by rjlockhart on September 22, 2006, at 0:22:57

I have just heard "myths" that a big sunburn or sun, will dry up the oil glands and make pimples dry up. This happened with me one time. I GOT BURNED Horridable but my face was almost clear, just not very conformatable.

I dont have acne, just a couple of zits, i usally boil them out with alcohol.

This is a silly question, but does anyone know, anyone a deteratoloist here?

Anything?

Not a dermatologist, but it's true- sun exposure is good for acne.

Sun exposure causes your skin to plump and get a little thicker. For whatever reason, this causes zits to go away, especially when you get a burn.

The bad news- a zit will heal by itself in a few days, and the scar will fade in weeks. BUT the sun damage from the burn may induce tiny changes in your DNA or cellular structure that may lead to wrinkles, spots and skin cancers.

In the meanwhile, try using some kind of product with benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid. Go to the drugstore and find something that seems like you can live with it. If you don't wash your face before bed, that's a good place to start.

sun. yuck!

I'm having problems with pimples at the moment.

Yeah I thought the sun thing worked because the UV light killed off the bacteria that cause acne.

Its also true what L said about the suns rays causing more permanent damage.

What I'd do to have clear skin.....

I've got the wrinkles and brown spots to attest to the sun is not good for your skin. Love Phillipa
