Are curly perms still in?

Posted by Phillipa on August 23, 2006, at 23:15:36

Boy I envy people with natural curly hair. I used to have a curly perm not that tight ringlet curls but loose pretty ones. I could air dry it too. My hair stylist says they are out and straight is in. What do you think? I've been letting mine grow for two years. I'm sick of the round brush and blow dryer? Love Phillipa

What happens if you just go natural? Does your hair have some natural wave? You can enhance your own curl quite a bit by giving up the blow dryer and brush and switching to conditioner washing instead of shampoo. You also have to give up silicone products because it takes strong shampoo to get them out. You might be surprised how much curl you can get that way.

They're not in but I'm not sure I care. I'm sick to death of my stick straight thin hair. Not that I ever managed supercurly. My hair fought even the perm solution, and all I ever got were slight waves after the first few days.

yeah, go for a really loose one, the ones that just give body and don't make it look like you have a perm.

I have super straight hair and I don't want to have spend time doing it. See when I had a perm air drying was all. And Wildcard no not a poodle perm I'm not that old. Love Phillipa ps I mean the ones you see that look like the lucky ones that have naturally curly hair.

hi Phillipa,
natural looking waves are definitely in this season! see glamour, and in style- if you don't believe me. Not big hair either, just the kind of hair that looks like it didn't take a lot of fuss, and looks healthy. I personally have baby thin and baby fine hair. I wear it straight, in pigtails and also with the round-brush blowdryer thing. Have to use volumizing shamppo and rootlifter and stuff. But in the summer, I usually just let it air dry. it's okay, and usually has enough bend in it to get a bit of body on its own

just make sure to keep your hair healthy after you perm it. the chemicals are strong!

I think there will not be a perm as the stylist said no. Love Phillipa

I thought that my hair was the only one to be immune to perm solution! I had a few perms in my younger years and they never came out curly (as was the style back then). My hair always turned out wavy and the waves only lasted a few days anyway. I've learned to accept my straight thin hair.

Thank goodness that it's only the 80s fashion that's making a comeback and not the super-permed hair. ;-)

Wildflower are loose curly perms making a come back? I didn't know that. I'm just fed up with spending so much time on hair that turns out horrible. The perms were always great. And my hair stayed healthy. Love Phillipa

No, I don't think that they're making a comeback. The natural accept-your-hair-for-what-it-is look has been in for a while. All of the makeover shows (and I do watch them all) focus on using what you already have. I haven't seen any of them do a perm or chemical straightner. They just enhance what's aleady there with the use of cutting and coloring. I think I remember seeing a picture you posted a while back...isn't your hair naturally wavy?

No the only wave you may have seen was the brush trying to turn the ends under and add some fullness. Love Phillipa

:) For my wedding I not only had a perm, but had my hair professionally set with tons of spray and gel. It still just made waves, and went limp shortly after the pictures.

I couldn't wear it up, because they haven't yet invented the bobby pin that won't slide out of my hair.
