contentment..................

Posted by sleepygirl on August 19, 2006, at 20:31:37

what is it?
1) feeling comfortable with yourself as you are
2) the state of not wanting
3) accepting that you do not have control over many things, but that's OK
???
any thoughts?

I'm well thanks :-)

someone said to me the other day that it's important that I be "happy", something about me too eager to please or something

...and I thought, well yeah....so?
I'm not so sure it's only that though.
I want something, but I don't know what it is.

I stopped using the word happy as my happiness always was dependent on outside circumstances. I'm not sure I "do" internal happiness. Contentment to me is coping effectively despite circumstances. It's like happiness is the temp and contentment is the thermostat.

I don't always succeed at contentment but for me it's a better goal than happiness.

I'm glad you're doing well.
